Nosy and bored (in case you hadn't guessed)

We buy (say) a sunflower and pumpkin seed-type loaf for dh, dd and I ... but then also a Hovis 'Best of Both' for the dss when they stay ...

any other '2 loafer' families out there ..?

walburtons, stays soft for ages, and we don't eat that much bread.

Enid · 01/03/2007 12:02

yes 2 loaves here

Sainsburys Organic sliced wholemeal for me (I love it, it is dense and chewy)

sliced white for kids sandwhiches (they insist (either sainsbos organic or Kingsmill 50/50)

Carmenere · 01/03/2007 12:07

Granary and/or seeded for everyday and organic rye for garlic bread/bruchetta which we have most weeks with pasta.

BlueDaisy · 01/03/2007 12:09

Kingsmill or Hovis wholemeal

White french stick occassionally

fannyannie · 01/03/2007 12:09

Waburtons white sliced (medium)

BlueDaisy · 01/03/2007 12:09

sunflower and pumpkin seed bread

sounds nice!

USAUKMum · 01/03/2007 12:09

2 loaves here.

wheat/oatmeal/sunflower for me & DH and Best of Both for kids. And the occasionally rye, sourdough or white bag. for dinner. Eaten by all

southeastastra · 01/03/2007 12:11

sliced wholemeal and bloomers with poppy seeds on!

Greeves · 01/03/2007 12:11

We make our own.

Spidermama · 01/03/2007 12:11

I find bought bread pretty disgusting on the whole. > But the best of a bad bunch for me is Cranks or Vogels.

deluxe · 01/03/2007 12:12

Best of both for ds, dd and dh. He would prefer pure white with no brown bits! (Heathen!)

Greeves · 01/03/2007 12:12

Oh , but I do buy wholemeal pittas/rye bread/pumpernickel sometimes

BoolieTC · 01/03/2007 12:12

We bake our own. Usualy brown, sometimes white if a tear and share type bread, often with added seeds.

Spidermama · 01/03/2007 12:12

Kelly have you ever questions why Warburtons 'stays soft for ages'?
Bread isn't supposed to last for ages.

themaskedposter · 01/03/2007 12:14

oh yes wholemeal pittas here too (mainly for me and dd - although dss2 shocked me yesterday by having one!)

OP posts:
deluxe · 01/03/2007 12:18

Who cares why it stays soft? It does what it says on the tin (well, packet), and is therefore good for smaller families, or ones which don't eat much, or are scrabbling together something for a end-of-week packed lunch!

themaskedposter · 01/03/2007 12:21

we keep our bread in the fridge too ... is this normal?

and the pittas in the freezer so we just get them out as needed ...

MrsBadger · 01/03/2007 12:24

We get through loads of bread - I suppose I should make my own really
Presliced with bits (Tesco Finest seedy, Warburtons multigrain crusty, whatever) for sandwiches
Unsliced with bits from bakery and/or bagels for toasting.
Pitta (Somerfield do the best) to go with chilli
Frozen part-bake ciabatta to go with Italian-type stews
Waitrose Pain de Campagne (is it called that? The huge long brown heavy one that tastes of actual bread) for weekend breakfasts

Kelly1978 · 01/03/2007 12:40

Oh I know it is bad spidermamma, but since most of the week the children get homemade pizza, quiche, pasties or soup for lunch, one a week a bit of crap bread isn't going to hurt them.

Generally make my own. Usually wholemeal loaf for everyday use. Then make ciabatta/rolls etc when we feel like it. I do buy wholemeal pitta and bagels as I have no idea how to make them. I do have some sliced loaf in the freezer for emergencies

BoolieTC · 01/03/2007 14:14

For those who buy cheap crappy bread read this

colander · 01/03/2007 14:36

We make our own - usually granary, seed or wholemeal, but white at weekends for a treat! I find that if I eat bought bread now I can actually taste the salt in it.
