Dinner party dessert that can be served in a bowl?

So I'm having a dinner party in 2 weeks for 10 people. I was going to make these Gordon Ramsey chocolate mousse cups that looked pretty easy but my MIL pointed out I only own 2 ramekins. I do however have a set of 12 nice new dessert bowls (well they're from Ikea but I like them ). So anyway, what can I make that I can serve in my dessert bowls? The only thing I can think of is a crumble. Any other ideas?

tiramisu
black forest trifle
fruit salad
choux pastry thing with choc and cream

Tiramisu? Or a big bowl of chocolate mousse? Trifle? Posh trifle?! Sticky Toffee Pud?

DimpledThighs · 01/03/2007 10:46

fruit tart
steamed pudding (spotted dick, chocolate sponge)

pavlova
cheesecake
or just make a chocolate mousse and use a large bowl and spoon it out when you want to eat

chocolate mousse topped with profiteroles??
trifles

cant you just but some more ramekins?

plipp · 01/03/2007 10:48

STP

thanks plipp but I hate sticky toffee pudding! Ditto bread & butter type puddings. sorry but I'm American and I guess we just don't do those sorts of puds. I thought about chocolate brownies with fruit & ice cream (i make very good choc brownies) but that seems a bit too much like what I would serve for the DC's birthday parties!

I'm thinking about the choc mouse or the tiramisu though -both are yum. Would choc pudding seem too plain though even if I serve it with a fruit platter? Anyone have a good (easy!) tiramisu recipe? Also, can I make it at least a day in advance?

delia's tiramisu

DimpledThighs · 01/03/2007 11:12

make it all in one dish - it is better if you make it in advance (lucky you!)

TinyGang · 01/03/2007 11:15

Oooh make this It's sooo easy but everyone thinks you've taken ages over it!

wurlywurly · 01/03/2007 12:16

choc trifle is lovely, havent had the delia one tho (great for pmt)

Carmenere · 01/03/2007 12:18

Peach Cobbler.

throckenholt · 01/03/2007 12:20

fruit salad.

If the Ramsey choc mousse cups are the ones from his Sunday Lunch book then give them a miss. I made them and they are easy but forgettable.
If your dessert bowls are flat rather than deep then frozen berries with a white chocolate sauce is lovely way to end a meal.

Agree trifle. I have friends round for food a lot and everyone always loves trifle. What's more you can make it so many different ways.

eton mess

decafskinnylatte · 01/03/2007 12:30

This one is super easy (just involves lots of dolloping of various things so don't even need to do in advance) & healthy too:

In each bowl:

Large dollop of greek yoghurt.
Generous sprinkling of pomegranate seeds.
Handful of chopped lightly roasted pecans.
Sprinkling of ground cinnamon.
Splurge of squeezy honey.

Gorgeous. Not quite of the same genre as chocolate mousse/tiramisu but great after a big dinner & always gets tons of compliments.

prettybird · 01/03/2007 12:31

Grape Cream.

Loads of seedless grapes, some greek yoghurt or sour cream and some dark brown(muscovado/molasses) sugar. Mix it all together to coat all the grapes. Chill for a few hours. Serve up in your nice bowls!

Easy peasy and very tasty!

Sugarmagnolia · 01/03/2007 12:39

yoyo - those are exactly the chocolate mousse cups I was going to do. In fact, having dismissed them for lack of ramekins I realised I do have enough espresso cups to do them in. Thanks for the tip. (Can't do eton mess, another friend of mine always does it so I need something different.)

Still thinking choc mousse or tiramisu. thanks for all the advice!!!

what about a marbled white and milk choc mousse?

fruittea · 01/03/2007 13:37

The Delia tiramisu is lovely, it's the recipe I always use.

Birdly · 01/03/2007 16:51

Another fan of the Delia tiramisu here - it's easy, delicious and all the better for being done the day before!
