Has anyone come across anywhere in the UK, a. a restaurant where the childrens menu doesn't just consist of nuggets, burgers and fish fingers, and b. has a supervised creche, so you too can enjoy your meal!

I think there is a gap in the market that needs addressing, and owuld be keen to hear your experiences - or note, as the case may be!

Thank you

We take the sluglet to every restaurant out. Perhaps it helps that food is her major obsession (could say brie before mummy) and we have NEVER fed her off the children's menu. She learnt early on that she gets a good reaction if she asks to see the 'cooky man' to say thank you.

Generally I find ethnic restaurants to be the best bet for small children. Our local Turkish restaurant is a dream of a destination. She will nibble off our plates, stand in the middle of the floor and dance to the music, follow the waiting staff around, be fed tidbits by the chefs, will sit on the owner's mother's lap, and generally is indulged by all and sundry. Our local vietnamese has an all you can eat buffet. Nowdays the staff will bring her little tidbits from the kitchen just to see what she will reject (nothing so far except tofu). They get a kick out of watching her scoff chickens feet and unmentionable intestines.

I hate any attempt to discourage children from experiencing food. Any restaurant that tries that one on me is in line for a major campaign of letters to the manager and local newspaper. How difficult is it to grasp the concept of customer with money, business need custom?

I can't stand the fact that some kids will only eat chicken nuggets! And as for the choice on the kids menu,

When we go out, we try to order the pasta dish for our dd (2 yrs) from the kids menu, but if we have a starters, she normally shares ours. She loves prawn cocktail and foods with spice or flavour. She normally has some of our veg from our main dish as the kids menus don't normally include them (maybe a few peas, if you're lucky)

The thing that restauranters have to realise is that our kids are their future customers, so they should be providing them with a good service too. (as long as the kids are well behaved, then it shouldn't be a problem) Mind you, if you socialise them from an early age then there shouldn't be a problem anyway!
