Venison steaks

I'm absolutely knackered and DH (the family chef) hasn't left work yet. Having perused the fridge I think we're going to be eating Waitrose venison steaks that were on special offer at Ocado which I bought on a whim.

Given that a) I'm knackered b) he's knackered c) we have a fully stocked larder of herbs and spices (including eg red currant jelly, green peppercorns and juniper berries) d) DH will be passing a fairly well stocked mini Sainsbury's on his way home - what shall we do with the steaks and what veg shall we cook (we have leeks + cauliflower plus aforementioned Sainsbury's).

Thanks - normally am good at meal planning but have no brain today.

Try Jamie's venison steaks with blueberries- serve with mash and something green. Or make a red wine wine sauce with some of the red currant jelly / shallots / thyme ?

I'm torn between "Blueberries??? Is he MAD?!" and "I guess it's not that far away from redcurrants and I do have some in the fridge"

Any bearnaise sauce? If not, mayonnaise with some crushed green peppercorns stirred in, fried or grilled venison served with potato wedges and sauce. Quick easy delicious especially with a glass or two of red. Wine Wine

(I've got rack of lamb in the oven so Wine here too!)

I'm a bearnaise addict, and I do have just about enough in the fridge , but I eat it so much with beef steaks that I quite fancied something a tiny bit different (though still not requiring actual cooking).

Also the idea of buttery mash and a sauce of some kind is appealing…

Fry the venison as you would a steak. Let them rest somewhere warm. Then fry shallots (or onion), deglaze with red wine, or port if you have it. Whisk in redcurrant jelly.
We would do dauphinoise potatoes but you prob won't have time! So mash!
It's one of our Christmas Eve meals!

Slice the cauliflower and have cauliflower steaks.

Thanks all. DH has a lifelong prejudice against Jamie Oliver so we're having venison steak au poivre with mash and broccoli (personally would have preferred dauphinoise as well but buggered if was going to cook that and Sainsbury's refused to supply an instant version - or indeed any veg more interesting than broccoli).
