What are your go to meals when cooking for a larger number of people than usual?

We are going away to a house with friends soon and so will be cooking for a large group of adults and children so would like it to be easy crowd pleasing stuff.

Lasagne
Anything that can be slow cooked and served with pasta or jacket potatoes
Soup
All in one sausage/chicken bakes

A casserole would travel well. You wouldn't need to worry about chilling it. Could make on the morning and reheat easily later on.

If it's adults I'd maybe do venison or beef in red wine. Or if it's a mix of kids and adults then just beef and carrot.

Then you could have it with crusty bread. Ox cheek and beef shin are very good.

For that I'd brown the meat in butter and oil then remove. Then add a couple of large onions, carrots and celery and soften, then garlic and thyme, tomato puree, red wine, passata or tinned tomatoes, beef stock (cube or one of those jelly pots would be fine or fresh from supermarket or homemade) then in the oven or on the hob for a few hours. I've also pre made mash and microwaved it so that works too. Enjoy!

Lasagne, Bolognaise, Beef Stew and our real cheat is Roast chicken with a really good salad and buttered french bread.

Lamb and couscous pilaf
Sausage casserole
Curry
Smoked salmon and mushroom tagliatelle

Any other thing that you can easily bulk out with extra veg/bread.

Chilli con carne. Then, bring/borrow a rice cooker or two, and/or throw some jacket potatoes in the oven.

You don't need a rice cooker to cook rice.

A chicken tagine with cous cous (cous cous is really good for large numbers as it's so quick and easy) although if you have particular fussy kids it may not be 'safe' enough.
How many will there be?

You don't need a rice cooker to cook rice.

True, but for larger quantities, I think it works well and also it keeps it warm once ready, which is handy. Chances are someone who's going will have one in their cupboard! Smile

Slow roasts like shoulder of lamb or beef silverside, with roasties, yorkshire puds and veggies.

StrawberryShortcake32 · 07/02/2017 20:41

Jambalaya. So tasty and you can serve crusty bread with it too. All in one pot, job done.

MistyMinge · 07/02/2017 20:45

Curry, sausage and mash, chilli, lasagne, jacket spuds with various choice of fillings, pizza and salad, pasta bakes,

picklemepopcorn · 08/02/2017 06:33

I definitely second getting a couple of rice cookers. They make large numbers so much easier.
