Want a quick, nutritious, invariably popular, lowGI(for dieters) lunch?

North Staffs oatckes. You grill them and fill with whatever you fancy (we like melted cheese in this house but could have tuna/mayo, ham and mustard or even jam), roll them up like a pancake et voila! They freeze really well. In stock at Sainsbos if you are ot in the Potteries.

Brill.

how very Regionalist

sassy · 27/02/2007 14:18

Not really, only like saying croissants are nice and you don't have to be in France for them!
I live in Worcs, anyway! (grew up in Stoke though)
Bit of a problem for Oz, i concede...

What are they? They're obviously not the sort of oatcakes we've got cos you'd have to be Paul Daniels to roll those up as they're biscuity things!

sassy · 27/02/2007 14:25

They are soft, like pancakes, and about the same size. But made with oatmeal flour as well as wheat flour. Taste sort of nutty. I recommend them most heartily. (Praps I'll bring some to the next worc meet up!)

They sound nice -I'll have to look out for them when next shopping. I get bored of bread.

unknownrebelbang · 27/02/2007 14:32

oh lovely.

Cheese, with bacon or sausage is favourite for me.

And local shops' produce (very regionalist, lol) are far superior to the supermarket version imvho.

Obviously only of use if you're in the right area, hehe.

NorksBride · 27/02/2007 14:35

Ooh, I've been looking for something other than bread/pitta for lunchboxes - will they be OK if made in morning and eaten at lunchtime?? We avoid wraps because they get a bit soggy but something oaty & Northern might have a bit more staying power!!!

sassy · 27/02/2007 14:39

Hmmmm, don't know. They are really best eaten hot you see.

OP posts:
unknownrebelbang · 27/02/2007 14:43

They would be fine cold......but I don't think they'd last that long, lol.

CanSleepWeirdShifts · 27/02/2007 14:46

Do they have any dairy products in them?

junkinmytrunk · 27/02/2007 14:46

Can't stand the things!!!!!!!!!! (dh is a stokie)

You need fruit pikelets..gorgeous!

CanSleepWeirdShifts · 27/02/2007 14:52

Just searched online for them and my store obviously don't stock them anyway - are they only in your area? My parents are in Worcs though, so could ask them to get some to bring down if they are dairy free.

CanSleepWeirdShifts · 27/02/2007 14:53

Ah, just reread your OP, and you did say only Sains in Potteries, sorry.

So if you're in Worcs, where do you get them from?

junkinmytrunk · 27/02/2007 14:55

If you have to eat them.....dh says this is the best shop in s-o-t

sassy · 27/02/2007 14:56

No , was a typo in the OP. Should read in stock at Sainsbos if you are not in the Potteries. (Mylocal Sains is Kidderminster if that is near your folks).

Just checked and they do contain milk though, sorry.

CanSleepWeirdShifts · 27/02/2007 14:58

Ah well, no use to me at the moment then anyway. Nevermind, will bear them in mind if/when dd outgrows her intolerance or I stop bf'ing her.

unknownrebelbang · 27/02/2007 15:01

Fruit pikelets are lovely too (might have to buy some tomorrow, lol).

PrisonerCellBlockAitch · 27/02/2007 15:07

here's a recipe they sound like oatmeal pancakes, really. which sounds yum.

CanSleepWeirdShifts · 27/02/2007 15:17

I bloody love you Aitch .

PrisonerCellBlockAitch · 27/02/2007 15:36

You know they're really just porridge pancakes, CSWS.

Othersideofthechannel · 27/02/2007 18:44

Mmmm, oatcakes and pikelets - reminds me of my childhood.
