Lunchtime tips - please....i really need some advice!

I really need some tips - my DS is 10.5 mo's and eats really well - although i'm really stuck for lunch time. I've given him ham sarnies, cheese sarnies and dairylea sandwiches. (Obviously with a yoghurt, or some fruit as well)
What else can i give him, he doesnt really eat much of the sarnies and i worry about his intake?
I've tried pittas before but i find they go too hard and struggles to chew them

What do you give your lo's for lunch? Would it be better for him to have another cooked meal (like he does for his tea)?

Some advice would be great as i'm really struggling....

how about soup or eggs on toast.cheese on toast or pasta and cheese/pesto?

Nip · 27/02/2007 13:08

my DS goes to nursery - so i dont know if they'd do eggs on toast (Can a 10mo have eggs?).
He likes pasta - he sometimes has that for tea - perhaps i could make some different pasta for lunch.

I cant believe that this can be so hard - i'm really having problems with this...

noodles ... lots of kids love noodles!

Nip · 27/02/2007 13:14

my DS has a 'cooked' meal for tea (at about 3.30 ish) - for example cheese & tomato pasta, chicken w/sweet pot's, etc

I worry that he'll be having too much ??

Whats eggy bread - how do you do it?

Which noodles are ok for lo's?

Yes a 10.5 month old can have egg.

dd (12 months) loves omelettes, or try the sweetcorn patties from Aitch's blog - they go down v well with dd and me!

dd doesn't often do well with sandwiches either (she's just got her 3rd and 4th teeth if it makes any diff), but different fillings you could try are hummous with grated carrot, or jam if you're feeling indulgent!

CanSleepWeirdShifts · 27/02/2007 13:16

How is he fed Nip - my dd can't really do noodles, but she self-feeds.

themaskedposter · 27/02/2007 13:23

Hey Cantsleep! haven't seen you around in ages (mind you I have been away!)Hope you're ok.

noodles are fun for them to play with and perhaps get some in their mouth (plain noodles - not ones with any flavourings added etc) Also cooked pasta shapes with a bit of veggie sauce - lots of fun and they usually end up getting some in them (and the rest on the walls and floor!!)

Nip · 27/02/2007 13:28

with sarnies, raisons, grapes etc - he'll quite easily feed himself - but obviously cooked meals i feed him.

I've never bought noodles apart from the ones that are straight to wok - which i guess arent the right ones!!!!

I tried hummous - but he wasnt keen.

If i was to make an omlette - how long can it be stored for, and can it be re-heated - as i said my DS goes to nursery to whatever he has, has to be made either the night before or first thing in the morning.

I've been around lots TMP (with various CSWS names!), but had noticed your absence. Didn't you go off to far flung places for a month or something?

I love noodles (and wholewheat spaghetti), so hoping dd will get the hang of eating them soon! She does great with pasta twists and veg sauce (though I've had to start blending the sauce as she was leaving all the chunks of veg in favour of the pasta otherwise ).

PandaG · 27/02/2007 13:30

soup really easy - 8 oz carrots, leeks, swede and celeriac. pell and chop into equal sized chunks. 1.5 litre stock or water. Bung all into a large pot, bring to a simmer, put in low oven for 3 hours. Liquidise, reheat. yum - for adults and children. Large chunks of bead in it can make it easier to eat for babies.

PandaG · 27/02/2007 13:32

bread !

CanSleepWeirdShifts · 27/02/2007 13:33

I'm not sure I'd reheat an omelette Nip, but you could make it more of a frittata or spanish omelette style and then serve it cold in chunks which he could feed himself.

The sweetcorn patties can also be made in advance and either served cold (which I have done) or reheated a little in the microwave (which I haven't tried).

Not sure why you said you 'obviously' feed him cooked meals - the reason I asked was because it isn't obvious who is doing blw and who isn't!!

Nip · 27/02/2007 13:33

CSWS - How do you make the veg sauce?

OP posts:
Nip · 27/02/2007 13:34

ignore the "obviously" - its my mind chucking in big words for no reason!

OP posts:
CanSleepWeirdShifts · 27/02/2007 13:37

lol!

For the veg sauce I dice and oven roast (with a little oil) any combination of aubergine, courgette, peppers, mushrooms, onion, carrot, celery, and then bung in a tin of tomatoes once they are cooked, and then just whizz it up. Should be nice and thick so that it coats the pasta well.

Nip · 27/02/2007 13:38

Brilliant - thank you very much - i'll give some of these ideas a go and hopefully get back on track with food!!

themaskedposter · 27/02/2007 13:40

oh that veg sauce sounds yum!

glad you're ok CSWS! will no doubt bump into you everywhere now!!

good luck with your lo Nip!

Nip · 27/02/2007 13:41

Thanks TMP.... my poor DS - i dread to think what would happen if it wasnt for MN - he's be eating dairylea sarnies forever! LOL!
