Pesto. Which is blander, green or red?

I've got some of each to use up and the 3 children have not had it before.

Ds doesn't like sauces on things at the moment so this should be ok as its more of a coating than a sauce.

Which one should I go for?

pesto is not bland!

I prefer the green as the red ones tend to be sundried tomato which I'm not a fan of

I couldn't think of the right word.

I meant which would be the best for my children who haven't had it before. They do eat other tomato based pasta sauces BTW

red would be more acceptable in the colour spectrum - tomato sauce most kids are used to and that is red.

The sight of pasta/pesto will be odd if not had it before (not a prob round mine...)

They eat pasta almost daily, just not with pesto.

Mine prefer the green but do eat the red as well.

I think green is nicer, red is a bit rich.

I'd go for Red. You stand more of a chance of them eating it.

I think red is winning. It is the closest to what they've had before.

just give them a spoon and let them decide themselves. seriously if it's bland then I'd take it back..

I did think of doing that but I know ds would say he doesn't want either. If its already on he should be ok.

just give him pasta on its own then

He does eat that a lot but I don't think its a very good meal!

I'm going to give them a bowl of each colour each!!

I asked them to choose and they said the opposite to each other.

red, white, green = perfect italian meal

red green and white, that's interesting. I'm doing pasta, brocoli, and tomato for the kids tea! Would that qualify? Or would it be polluted by the brown sausages I'm adding.

OMG WHAT A DISASTER.

I gave dd (18m) red and she ate it all up.
I gave the other 2 both bowls, they both said 'yuk' at the green bowl. Normal so far.

Then they started eating the red. The 5yr old (next doors daughter)didn't look too impressed.

Anyway, the doorbell goes and its next door, the mum.

I casually say 'Oh they're just eating tea, pesto pasta'

And she says 'x can't eat nuts'

Aggggh she's allergic. I completely forgot. Thought Red Pesto=tomatoes

Yes I know green is obviously not tomato. Don't know what I was thinking. Basil mainly.

Anyway, she'd only had a few bites and is fine. She's mainly allergic to peanuts I think. And raw egg.

So embarrasing.

well pesto is supposed to be made with pine nuts, that's how I make it. And the pine nut is actually a seed and not a nut...

I know !! I just didn't think.

Real pesto is only ever green - basil, pecorino, pine nuts, garlic and olive oil.
yummy. the red stuff is nice but shouldn't be called pesto.
