Sticky toffee pudding - can I make it in advance?

Making sticky toffee pudding tonight, can I make it ahead of time?

Ideally I'd like to mix up the cake mixture, put in a tin and wait till this evening to bake. Then make the sauce whilst it baking.

Will this work? Recipe involves self-raising flour if that makes a difference.

Yes will be fine - I personally would bake early, prepare sauce and reheat but I'm all for an easy life

Won't it be too dry if I re-heat? Or ok with the sauce?

No - I think you would need to bake it after mixing it. Something to do with baking powder/bicarb etc.

But you can wrap in foil and warm up while you're making the sauce this evening. I've doen that and even transported it in that state and it's fine.

I always make the sticky toffee cake and the sauce in jug. Reheat both when wanted

I make up a batch of sticky toffee and reheat individual portions in the microwave (20-30s) it stays pretty moist, although lots of toffee sauce might help!

Sorry should of said that I make and reheat the cake and sauce separately. The cake part freezes pretty well too.

Brilliant, thank you! Will bake it now Smile

Hi OP,
Definitely bake it after you mix it up, you can make the sauce in advance too. Both can quickly be reheated, sauce on the microwave, or pan on stove top, cake in the oven. The only way it'll dry out is if you leave it in the oven too long, can't see it needing more than 15 minutes /20 minutes tops. to reheat at 180... ever thought of doubling the sauce recipe and pouring half of the sauce over the cake and then reheating? You'd get a nice sticky glaze!! Yum!
