Hi all looking for a a recipe for Xmas day to serve alongside Xmas pudding. Some of like trifle but not all, and any leftovers (which we like to have) end up as slop the next day. Thought about Eton mess, but I can't seam to find an extra special recipe. but wondered if anyone else had any ideas?

Tiramisu?

Tftpoo · 21/12/2016 13:27

Or pavlova? You could get tropical fruits to make it a bit more special. Pavlova usually keeps ok until the next day too. Or chocolate profiteroles (my personal five at any time of year...yum).

We're having a pavlova this year.

LadyPenelope68 · 21/12/2016 13:29

Tiramisu, much nicer than trifle!

timelytess · 21/12/2016 13:30

Syrup sponge.
Take sponge. Warm some syrup and pour on. Possibly add alcohol or a ginger flavour. Top with a layer of custard and a layer of whipped cream. Some people would sprinkle with grated chocolate but crushed honeycomb (like the middle of a crunchie) might be nicer.

Gingerbread or ginger cake dowsed with whisky. Whipped cream. Layer. Chill thoroughly. Top with crystallised ginger. Slice

Ice cream Christmas pudding.

I made made a massive pavlova on Saturday, so fancied something different, profiteroles are nice but I won't have much time. Tiramisu is a possibility

if you like trifle and almonds/marzipan, then the Princesstorte from GBBO a couple of series ago is good.

It's like a trifle in a cake! Recipe here it's a bit faffy as there is cake and custard to make and cool, i used ready made marzipan as am far too lazy to bother with that, but it really was lovely, and everyone here liked it

I suppose if you didn't like marzipan you could sub fondant icing??

BiscuitCapitalOfTheWorld · 21/12/2016 14:04

Limoncello tiramisu, I'd serve with berries.

Sahara? Sorry - couldn't resist!

I think pavlova is a perfect dessert for Christmas as its light and fresh. But I'm not a fan of triffle.

MoreThanUs · 21/12/2016 14:06

Oh, actually, I'd go profiteroles!

4merlyknownasSHD · 21/12/2016 14:22

Lemon Posset? Atholl Brose? Both doable in advance.

80sWaistcoat · 21/12/2016 14:24

Cranachan - with a wee bit of whisky.

BrieAndChilli · 21/12/2016 14:35

Chocolate baileys mousses (can make without baileys for non drinkers)
Creme brulee

BrieAndChilli · 21/12/2016 14:35

Cheesecake

bookbook · 21/12/2016 14:39

I'd do creme brulee, or pannacotta with good shortbread biscuits on the side, and a red berry compote sauce,

Kaz2200 · 21/12/2016 16:19

Just to add working til Friday, so only Saturday to shop and prepare for 10, so simple and impressive is what I am aiming for.

Find out what the non-trifle fans don't like about trifle, leave those items out (usually no grapes or jelly). Home-made sponge, chocolate custard containing excellent booze, more sponge, cream and fruit to decorate may go down well with people who don't like soggy fruit mixed with soggy cake.

tb · 21/12/2016 19:03

Syllabub? You could always make/buy langue du chat biscuits, or serve with boudoir biscuits.

P1nkP0ppy · 21/12/2016 19:10

Zabaglione with ginger snaps or brandy snaps.
Quick lemon cheesecake can be made 24 hours in advance or frozen - very moreish 😋

Passion pudding: ifood.tv/pudding/112016-passion-pudding

Fresh fruit, chopped

Put the fruit into a 1 1/4 pint (750 ml) glass dish or four individual glasses. Pour the cream/yoghurt mixture on top.
Sprinkle the top with a 1/4 inch layer of sugar.
