Help - Philadelphia and cheesecake recipe...

wangle99 · 16/02/2007 19:41

Am going to make www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/2869/new-york-cheesecake.jsp this recipe (sorry haven't sussed links yet)

it says 3 x 300g Philadelphia cheese. I can only find 200g packets. Do you think I need in total 900g of cheese or is this a misprint?

I have never made cheesecake before and have no idea of the kind of quantities you might need.

Thanks

Yeah, 900g of cream cheese sounds about right for a reasonable-sized cheesecake.

You can use other brands of cream cheese, you can use mascarpone, too.

Thank you, better go down Tesco and get some more lol. I was going to buy Tesco own brand soft cheese but wasn't sure if it was the same (such a difference in the price!)

Check the fat percentage. If it's the same, or similar (within a few percent), use the own-brand.

oh ok, can I mix the two different brands or is it better not to?

Mix 'em, I've done it. No problem at all.

Thank you! Wish I'd bought the cheap one to begin with now - fingers crossed it turns out ok, it better do considering how much its costing to make lol
