Just that really...

There's so many online. Something that looks and tastes brilliant. And tell me where you get your joint from too.

It is on her website and is amazing!

MerryMarigold · 06/12/2016 03:27

Love the idea of boiling in ginger ale!

I have tried loads but in the end I always come back to ham in Coca Cola or equally nice is ham in ginger ale. Nothing else, added, just that. You can't beat it. I don't bother glazing or roasting it, just cut the very slimy outer layer of fat off and leave the creamy nice fat underneath.

redjellybean · 06/12/2016 19:32

The glaze that nigella does with the ginger ham is delicious and even better when some goes all gooey in the bottom of the pan and you did the ham in it Smile
She seems to recommend litres of ginger ale but I never needed nearly the amount she said. Just enough to cover it.

redjellybean · 06/12/2016 19:33

*dip the ham in!

WhoKnowsWhereTheT1meG0es · 06/12/2016 19:40

Boiled in water with peppercorns, bayleaves, cloves etc (along the lines of Nigella's turkey brining but no salt). Then trim off the rind, score the fat, stud with cloves, glaze with redcurrant jelly and finish in the oven.

MerryMarigold · 06/12/2016 21:27

Did one tonight cooked with bay and peppercorns, because I had in the house. Tried to glaze with honey (didn't have mustard) but it all slipped off and then burnt badly. Transferred to another dish but it burnt again on the outside. Hmmm the roasting stage isn't as easy as it seems!

MerryMarigold · 06/12/2016 23:08

Ah 15 mins will be the trick! I will read a recipe when I'm doing the expensive xmas one.

That's why I never bother roasting and glazing mine Merry.

I've never managed to do it without the glaze either sliding off or totally burning.

foodiemama26 · 07/12/2016 16:36

Hairy bikers mustard and honey one is amazing! Making it for the third time this year and always goes down very well here.

lydiarose · 07/12/2016 16:41

My favourite one is also the easiest 😀. You need a slow cooker though. Just cover the bottom of the slow cooker with a layer of soft brown sugar, put in the ham and cover it too with more brown sugar. Cook for about 6 hours. The sugar and ham juices form a lovely sauce, and the have tastes fabulous. Great for Christmas Day as it doesn't take up any oven space.

MerryMarigold · 07/12/2016 17:33

No slow cooker sadly. I wanted to try honey and mustard last night but ran out of mustard! Also, clearly without a recipe as it turned into a pile of burn next to the ham (the ham was still nice though).

This Nigella recipe

The best ever.

Yamadori · 07/12/2016 17:44

Anythings as long as it isn't studded with cloves (bleurgh).

My favourite is simmered in pineapple juice, then skin and most of fat removed, then glazed with mango chutney and popped in the oven for half an hour.

MerryMarigold · 08/12/2016 16:55

Oooh they all sound so nice. It's a toughie. I'm fancying that treacle one just cos I love treacle! But burning potential is high!

OP posts:
TinklyLittleLaugh · 10/12/2016 21:07

I boil mine with black peppercorns, bay leaves, cloves and a couple of tablespoons of treacle. Don't bother to glaze. Tastes amazing and even better the next day. And. I use the slightly dodgy looking black stock for ham and lentil soup which is a big family favourite.

GreenGoblin0 · 11/12/2016 10:25

ooo I've been looking for a ham recipe. what type of ham do you get and where from ? do they all have additives in?

MerryMarigold · 11/12/2016 15:16

Green goblin, I'd like to ask that question too. In sains they all look the same but different sizes. Anyone very one on the bone and where from?

SoupDragon · 11/12/2016 15:24

I did the brown sugar slow cooker one once. It was horrible!

I have tended to wing it in the past by opening the fridge and cupboards and seeing what I've got! I've boiled it in apple juice before.

toastymarshmallow · 11/12/2016 15:29

Last year I did Nigella's Black Treacle ham. It was a bit of a faff having it in the low oven for so long, but it was definitely worth it and I will be repeating it this year.

MerryMarigold · 11/12/2016 18:35

Thanks, toasty. I am leaning towards it, though I think everyone else will like the ginger one! Do you guys use 'normal' ham or one on the bone?

OP posts:
MerryMarigold · 11/12/2016 18:37

Tinkly, my Mum does the same ham but without the treacle. We also have it in a soup for boxing day, mixed with turkey juices etc. It's one of my fav bits of xmas! I did it the other day and made a soup but it wasn't as good without the turkey stock.
