celeriac not a huge fan,so hand half up!

MamaG · 15/02/2007 17:21

ROFL

Tatties · 15/02/2007 17:21

I have never tried cauliflower in soup, but I think celeriac works well

Carmenere · 15/02/2007 17:22

It will be lovely. I would put a bit of mustard and some cumin in too and maybe a potato. And a bit of cream at the end.

HuwEdwards · 15/02/2007 17:23

erm...no - like 'em both but they are too strong in flavour to be put together in a soup.

Overrun · 15/02/2007 17:23

Celeriac doesn't taste of much though does it?

OP posts:
lulumama · 15/02/2007 17:24

oi..you laffin' at me , Mamag??

be more inclined to do broccoli and cauli!

Whoooosh · 15/02/2007 17:24

I think it sounds great...

KathyMCMLXXII · 15/02/2007 17:24

It does, it tastes strongly of celery.
Either but not both IMO.

Overrun · 15/02/2007 17:24

Oh dear, a mixed response, guess I will have to make my own mind up now
Maybe I will try it as I am half way there, and report back. Have only chopped Celeriac, celery and onion so far, so could change my mind if there is a groundswell of opinion against

OttergavebirthonValentines · 15/02/2007 17:25

celeriac is quite strong but i only eat it raw

Carmenere · 15/02/2007 17:25

I strongly think that it will be very nice.

KathyMCMLXXII · 15/02/2007 17:26

I want you to try it now and report back
Then when I end up with both in my organic box I'll know what to do.

Bagpuss30 · 15/02/2007 17:26

Hugh FW has a white winter soup in his family cookbook which contains both so I'm sure it will be fine. He uses stock, whole milk and cream in at the end too.

Overrun · 15/02/2007 17:34

Bagpuss, thats my idea as well, I have put chicken stock in, and will put some double cream in at the end
I reckon it will work, both celeriac and cauliflower go well with cheese, and I cook celery and cauliflower together fairly regularly.
Wish me luck, and I will tell you how it turns out

it will be delicious. plenty of stock. make sure they are v soft and puree.....ooooo velvety it will be! I second some mustard and cumin...

Overrun · 15/02/2007 17:37

Ta, will seriously consider some mustard, not so sure the cumin would work in this soup, although I agree it goes brilliantly with cauli ( I often dry fry it with cumin and spices, and then roast it in the oven

OP posts:
Bagpuss30 · 15/02/2007 17:39

Good luck .

We had a celeriac last week (organic veg box strikes!) and I souped it and then added some chopped crispy bacon when I served it, it was yummy!

dingdongjustforyoufg · 15/02/2007 18:09

hi overrun I make a yummy cauli soup with a strong cheese in it and mustard stirred in at the end, would happily add celeriac if I had one (I have made some v odd soups recently, thanks to veg box!)

Overrun · 15/02/2007 18:13

Thanks dingdong, it is smelling quite nice now, simmering away

Overrun · 15/02/2007 19:26

I have to say that it was

fantastic Very nice indeed if I say so myself. The best thing was the dts ate it as well, and they have been saying "no oup" with alarming regularity this last month, so I am chuffed that they gulped this one down. I suppose the whiteness of it was more attractive to them than a green or red colour lol

Tut tut, I was led to believe that the outcome of my soup was being waiting on with baited breath

OP posts:
Whoooosh · 16/02/2007 09:15

Gald it worked-could have done with a nice bowl myself last night

KathyMCMLXXII · 16/02/2007 10:19

Oh Overrun, I've been waiting all night until I could log on this morning and find out

Am about to do some celeriac soup myself but no cauli; will bear it in mind when I have one!

yeahinaminute · 16/02/2007 10:24

Celeriac loses some of it's "potency" when cooked though doesn't it?

Sounds lovely - I'm a believer in the chuck it all in and see what happens type of cooking - just after Christmas the YIAM household was treated to sprout and chestnut soup !! - and it was surprisingly good even Wonson gulped it down asked for more then went completely off it on his 3rd bowl when I told him it contained sprouts !!
