My husband is roasting chicken for dinner but he bought two frozen ones and says it's fine to cook them from frozen. I don't believe him! Does anyone know???

No. It is not fine to cook chicken from frozen.

Blandmum · 14/02/2007 16:52

It is a bad idea. You risk the inside of the chicken not being properly cooked and/or the inside of the bird not getting hot enough to kill all the bacteria that can be present in raw chicken meat

ComeOVeneer · 14/02/2007 16:53

I thought it was dangerous because the outside would cook but not the inside and undersooked chicken is dangerous, but I may be wrong.

footprints · 14/02/2007 16:54

Hmmm, he says it's ok as long as you make sure it's properly cooked through.

I don't want to eat it, there will be a row in the footprint house tonight

er no unless you wantto risk food posioning . The outside might look done but the inside could still be frozen.

TheArmadillo · 14/02/2007 16:56

just double checked with the gov's food hygiene page and they say to fully defrost chicken before cooking.

Has the chicken got packaging which states how to cook and whether to defrost first? Would that convince him more?

My SIL is an environmental health officer. She say NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Aloveheart · 14/02/2007 16:58

Chillout · 14/02/2007 16:59

I mean no don't do it, not no it isn't dangerous!!!

JARM · 14/02/2007 17:00

PLEASE dont do it. It isnt worth food poisoning

footprints · 14/02/2007 17:01

What if he makes sure the inside is totally hot before serving???

I'm really not going to eat it, but he insists he's done it loads of times before and wants dd to eat it.

He thinks I am neurotic, but I think he's risking our child's health

Part of SIL's job involves going and collecting, Gillian McKeith styley, samples of peoples poo who have food poisoning. Don't risk it, esp. not in a child.

footprints · 14/02/2007 17:03

Thanks, if you all agree with me then I'm NOT being neurotic.

Am popping out to shop now to get an alternative

my mother defrosts her chickens in the micro

but personally i wouldnt do taht

LIZS · 14/02/2007 17:05

Extremely unlikely it will be anything near cooked by the time your ds eats anyway . Get an alternative for tonight and leave it in fridge to defrost for tomorrow.

footprints · 14/02/2007 17:16

After a big argument, chickens ended up in the bin. We are having lamb instead.

OP posts:
Sugarmagnolia · 14/02/2007 18:15

sorry if this is a silly question but why not just let the chickens defrost for tomorrow - unless he'd already started cooking them.
