Littleweed,

I did this with both DD and DS. In fact DS never had jar food, just used the jars from DD, and never had a problem. Froze them and defrosted when needed. HTH

Also, not totally on the subject, if out and about precooked courgete and banana mashed together was DS's favorite. But not suitable for freezing. The two mashed together in a bowl was pure heaven (although I thought the whole thing was Yucky)

Hiya littleweed! The difficulty with freezing homemade food in baby food jars, is it's hard to get the stuff out, and therefore to thaw it quickly and thoroughly.

I used old yoghurt pots, which I washed thoroughly, and sterilised with Miltons. The contents can then be easily popped out, heated in the microwave to high temperature, then allowed to cool. I covered them with clingfilm in the freezer.

HTH

I believe that you should freeze them without the lids then put the lids on when they have completely frozen. I'm thinking it may be a good idea for when I'm out - i.e. take it out of the freezer in the morning then maybe would have defrosted by lunchtime (or at least enough to take it our of the jar and put in a bowl to finish off in the microwave). Haven't done it yet though
I use a flexible muffin tray (from Lakeland of course)as the frozen portions pop out quite easily.

Damn! I've just bought heaps and heaps of those little plastic pots with special lids - if only I'd read this thread first I would have tried something more home-made. I did try the ice-cube method but broke two ice-cube trays getting the cubes out and also DS is such a pig we wouldn't get very far with little wee cubes.

I used to seal the jars with those celophane lids for jam making and then freeze them. The flexible lids meant the jars didn't crack. They defrost well in a microwave (lids off).

I've had some of the hipp jars crack under freezing.
I prefer to use yoghurt pots too... with clingfilm and rubber bands.
