I usually make a Delia chicken thing cooked in sherry with tarragon, but I've made it for this group twice before, so it'd like to try something new.

It has to be made the day before and transported then reheated. Ideally no last minute faff so I don't miss the fireworks. No beef or fish or rice.

Any ideas?

Tagine. Lamb, apricots etc. It's one of those dishes that's even better reheated.

Coq au vin?

InformalRoman · 03/11/2016 09:15

Lamb tagine? With apricots, preserved lemons etc?

I've made this a few times when we've had friends around as once you've got it going it doesn't need constant attention. It's always gone down well. Usually serve it with salad and crusty bread and just let everyone help themselves

BertrandRussell · 03/11/2016 09:51

Ooh, a tagine's a good idea. I think I'd be worried about overcooking a coq au vin-mainly because I always have in the past!

Cassoulet?

GettingMuckyFingersCrossed · 03/11/2016 11:03

I'd make a pie filing the day before
Chuck it in a casserole dish that evening and leave in oven
Last 5 minutes pop ready made pastry on a tray in the oven
Plonk on plates with a square of pastry on top

ChuckGravestones · 03/11/2016 11:05

I would always do chilli for this. It can go with bread, potatoes, crisps or chips when it gets to where it is going to be eaten.

Chicken Marbella chicken marinated & then baked, it's an American recipe so the measures are in cups but it's very quick to preparez

trevortrevorslatterfry · 03/11/2016 11:10

Another vote for lamb tagine. Or a butternut squash one if veggie. yummm

ShowMeTheElf · 03/11/2016 11:12

Or lamb tagine with big chunks of roasted butternut squash ...

Bluntness100 · 03/11/2016 17:57

Chicken and chorizo, just shove onions, garlic, potatoes, olive oil , chicken thighs and chorizo in a big dish and shove it in the oven. About half an hour before end, shove some chopped up bell peppers in, you can add some mushrooms too.

Then if uou want serve with some garlic bread, salad if you fancy. I've cooked it for this size group many times, it's dead easy and the chorizo makes it really tasty, a real crowd pleaser. Promise.

BertrandRussell · 03/11/2016 18:01

My lamb's marinating for a tagine as we speak! And I'm going to try the chicken Marbella sometime but I'll have to wait for some "bent bargain" free range chicken-the cost was eye watering. I do the chicken and chorizo too- sometimes I use whole pickling onions in it- they are delicious. Thank you everyone.

Slow cooked pigs cheeks with ready made rösti and veg?

Allthebestnamesareused · 03/11/2016 18:56

Spanish Chicken with Chorizo in Nigella "Kitchen"

easy peasy - very tasty.

I think you can get the recipe online

Chinnygirl · 03/11/2016 19:05

Poule au pot? You do need to make the sauce but thats 1 min in a different pan.

Popskipiekin · 04/11/2016 13:28

Oooh OP I love that Delia dish you mention! Was the first dish I made as a teen hosting my first "dinner party" and still make it now.
Tagine recipe - Claire MacDonald does the most delicious lamb and apricot - couldn't find a proper link to a blog or anything but does this (extremely long!) link work? books.google.co.uk/books?id=6768BQAAQBAJ&pg=PT50&lpg=PT50&dq=claire+macdonald+lamb+apricot&source=bl&ots=57-PUG1JCt&sig=fqexTnLkN6wgr_KaEDdMDZ6IQgw&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjUqo6Omo_QAhXBKiwKHW6cCmYQ6AEITDAH#v=onepage&q=claire%20macdonald%20lamb%20apricot&f=false

gerbo · 04/11/2016 13:38

I'd do a large chicken tikka masala, take poppadums and naan breads. Onion bhajis as a nod to vegetables too?!

anonymousbird · 04/11/2016 14:51

I realise I am too late, but I would have said Nigella's Carbonnade.

It is heaven in a pot, and distinctly improved with a day's "rest" between making and eating....
