What onion chopping gadgets exist?

I hate chopping onions as they really sting my eyes. Is there a clever onion chopping gadget that works? I've got a Magimix, but I wondered if there was anything small that would work for a single onion. Or should I just wear swimming goggles and be done with it Grin?

Something like this?

Kuuk Vegetable and Fruit Dicer https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B015WA6K4W/ref=cmswwrcppapi_zd4aybTPPCG2E

I just buy frozen diced onions, means I always can get the right amount. Would you consider this?

Lakeland have a mini chopper thing. It's like a plastic bowl with different blade attachments you can just press down

Seconding the frozen chipped onions! Usually £1 for a 500g bag. Total lifesaver!

My best onion chopping gadget is the packet of frozen chopped onions I buy in Tesco. This useful gadget also deals with mixed peppers and sliced red onions.

Grin I'd definitely consider frozen chopped onions - do they go water-y though? Can you just try them as usual? I'd love this solution actually, less hassle / less space to store another gadget...

I have looked at the Lakeland chopper with longing once or twice.

Therapeutic too as you kind of bash it Grin

I find frozen ones fine. If they have built up some ice on them I rinse under tap in a sieve and use hand to gently squeeze any excess water away.

I don't mind chopping but got a food processor from a boot sale in the summer, and have since done my own lazy onions for the freezer.
Bought 4kg for 99p today and have food processored them, frozen flat and just about to bag them ready for use at my leisure.

Frozen do give off a bit of water but it means I don't add oil to pan and just fry as they are. Onions are far too much faff and eye stingy otherwise.

Ilovehedgehogs · 22/10/2016 11:56

I am a frozen onion fan too.

You need a very sharp knife. Buy a knife sharpener and use it regularly.
Peel, slice and cut the onion as usual but leave the hairy bulb bit at the bottom intact until the last moment.

No tears, guaranteed.

Frozen onions here too Grin

I can recommend 'Eazy Onions' in a can. They're already lightly sautéed and are particularly good for curries, chillis, casseroles, etc.
