Im trying to cut my shopping budget down and im trying different own brand stuff to see what the difference is.

This morning i had sainsburys own brand weetabix which are 70p cheaper than the proper ones and they have exactly the same ingredients and taste exactly the same!!

So thats 70p at least il save per week. Anything else that tastes just as good for a fraction of the price?

Tinned tomatoes, kidney beans, etc

Dishwasher tablets (though obviously you don't eat them!)

Well I go to Aldi and save a fortune, for example
cornflakes
weetbisk
porridge
biscuits
tin goods like tomatoes, baked beans, tinned fish etc
pasta
tomato puree
mustard
orange juice
nappies
wipes
handwash
washing up liquid
bleach
milk
wholemeal bread
breadsticks
flour

I could go on but I think you get the idea

Oh yes nappies - tesco ones are as good as pampers/huggies and a LOT cheaper

Cool, thanks. Ive started getting low fat own brand yogurts instead of muller lights which taste lovely and are only about 40p for 4.

its really stupid, but i never even thought about switching to own brand stuff really. I bet i can save a fortune!

Agree re:tinned tomatoes, frozen veg is generally pretty similar.
I think things like branflakes and muesli are pretty bearable too.

However if you're a Diet Coke fan, DO NOT think own brand will taster even remotely like it!!!!

also, sainsburys sparkling table water 17p. Ive stopped drinking 2 ltr bottle of Pepsi per day and replaced it with this. Bit of a cheap skate, but i love sparkling water!!

Also shop at Sainsbury's. I always get their Economy tinned potatoes, tomatoes and baked beans. Their bags of Economy apples are quite good as well (think they're about 49p), the type of apple changes but sometimes it's those Granny Smiths, just the same as the ones they sell loose! I can't tell the difference! And their Economy packs of biscuits and Jaffa cakes are excellent too! (Sorry I'm an Economy type of person!)
The things that I'm a bit iffy about with Economy stuff, is bread, washing powder, jam tarts and cherry bakewells. I get the next lot up pricewise- still Sainsbury's own but not Mr Kiplings.
We've found if you go shopping in the evening, you can get lots of reduced stuff in the chilled/bakery sections. I think most supermarkets have a "battered section" as well for dented tins and packets of cereal etc. Often worth a look.
