Can you go cold turkey with finger foods?

DS is 15m old and not able yet to eat finger foods, he has the manual skills to put the food in his mouth (as he puts lots of non edible things in it), he can chew but the problems is that he seems to find the idea of touching food with his hands simply discusting, he don't even touch bread, but he eats it if I brake it in small pieces and use a spoon.

He has an idea of how to use the spoon but gets annoyed of spending so much time trying to put the food in his mouth so he hands it over to me.

I have seen many children his age and younger happily eathing bread, and vegetables shopped in small pieces, he would not even touch them unless he tries to feed them to the dog. The only food that he willingly puts in his mouth are some cookies and... dog biscuits (yuk! can not feed the dogs in his presence)

Is it a good idea to go Cold Turkey and serve only finger foods?

I don't think I would only serve finger foods - what about finding something he's really motivated to eat - he'll eat cookies, so what about 'apple cookies', or something with dips - you could give carrot sticks to dip into something he likes, and that might bridge the gap - he'd basically be using the carrot as a spoon, and then might actually eat the carrot.

Hope this helps!

It sounds as if he might just be enjoying the whole novelty of the spoon business. I honestly don't think I would interfere! When he feels tempted enough to pick bread etc with his fingers, he will do. Does he eat cake or sweets with his fingers?

No he doesn't, he play with them but won't put them in his mouth unless they are spoonfed.

Does the same with the carrots, use them as brushes to paint with food over the top of the table. If I put the carrots by themselves he can either handle them to the dog or put his "yuk" face when touching them.

Actually, he is exagerately clean, the other day he got a drop of milk at his hand while drinking from his bottle, he put the bottle down cleaned his hand with the rug -lovely child!- and and continue with the bottle...
