No cook porridge - will it give sore tummy?

I start work next week and DS (10 mths) will have breakfast at childcare.

He normally gets porridge with apple/ pear/ apricot that I cook every 2 days - fresh cooked one day, kept in fridge then heated up the next.

I don't really want to be cooking porridge the night before, so have found a few recipes for non cook porridge - you basically soak the oats and some dried fruit in the fridge the night before in milk or water then eat it straight from the fridge the next day.

Sounds good but scared it will give ds a tummy ache - sounds difficult to digest. Anyone else tried this or got any healthy eay breakfast ideas?

can't you just cook normal porridge in the microwave. it only takes 3 minutes.

funnypeculiar · 05/02/2007 19:19

could you freeze it in individual portions?

what childcare is it? why do you have to provide the food?

ScotGirl · 05/02/2007 19:25

He is going to a childminder (2 days) and nursery (1 day). For the childminder I provide all his food and for the nursery they provide lunch and snacks but I need to do breakfast.

I want something easy for them to do - not too sure if the nursery will be wanting to faff about cooking porridge for me at 8am when all the other kids are arriving...

I think freezing might be the answer - I had forgotten that you could freeze cooked porridge.

I used to freeze ds's when he was little as I hated porridge so would make up a load- it works fine. Don't think you can freeze banana well, though (goes all brown) so perhaps better off avoiding the banana version

oh right, our nursery provides breakfast, I assumed all did lol.

you can also buy ready made porridge which just needs heating.
or maybe he could have something different?
