We're trying to cut out sugar and alcohol - come and join us!

I've packed a salad with rocket, walnuts, feta cheese and cherry tomatoes and I absolutely don't want one of the office bourbon biscuits...

Well I am reporting in to say that I have had a good weekend! Half a glass of wine Sat evening, no other treats! I have eaten lots of lovely filling food and managed to resist the junk. We'll see if it has made a difference on the scales in the morning!

Well done everyone! I'm one week down on no booze or sugar although I totally Od'd on fresh figs so I might have to cut out fruit too, which I dont normally do, but my sweet tooth went into overdrive and my stomach wasn't very happy with the results

PosiePootlePerkins · 12/09/2016 07:16

Have weighed in and have lost 2lbs! Smile

msrisotto · 12/09/2016 09:33

Hello! Despite cravings, I didn't crack all weekend which is the hardest time for me so I am happy with that effort! I lost 2 lbs overnight which tells me I should weigh myself less often. But i'm not in it to lose weight and it is my skin which has really benefitted. All the little bump type spots on my forehead have gone, the pores on my nose are looking clear and I feel like my skin is glowing which is awesome. Keep going everyone! It's really worth it.

Needmorewine · 12/09/2016 12:02

Morning all ! Well done to everyone who had a good weekend. Mine wasn't perfect but definitely much better than would have been before starting this. Back on it today !

CoffeeCrisis · 13/09/2016 14:48

Hi everyone! Not doing bad at all - five days with no sugar! And no booze. Even yesterday, when I felt rotten and wanted a) chocolate and b) a hot toddy.

As for rewards - I have an app on my phone that calculates how much money you've saved on alcohol/ sweeties. I bought a month's swimming membership at the local sports centre with my first month's booze-free. Sweets are less lucrative, but I'll be able to buy a nice book in a week or two.

I have eaten four biscuits. It has not been a good day.

Oh dear coffee these things happen, its hard to be 100% good 100% of the time. risotto well done for staying strong over the weekend, i also struggle when I am not in my work routine, more time to eat what I shouldn't!
I am doing OK, have discovered salted popcorn, a small bag is only 37 cals! and feels like a proper snack. Have also switched to wholemeal pasta which didn't taste as bad as I thought!

msrisotto · 14/09/2016 21:23

Onwards and upwards coffee!

GeorgeHerbert · 15/09/2016 10:21

Oh dear, not a good few days. Like coffee it's biscuits which are my downfall - I can't just have one, I have 4 or 6 Blush
I'm off today so it's a bit easier to be good, I'm more aware of when my danger points are and work is a big one - also when I arrive home from work! I don't get a regular lunch break so tend to snack, come home hungry, dive for a biscuit to keep me going which then turns into 4...

CoffeeCrisis · 15/09/2016 14:05

Thanks all. I fell off the wagon big-time yesterday and also sought solace in a big bag of humbugs. And here's the huge irony of it all - I was consoling myself for the news that I had a whole load of dental work ahead since my back tooth was falling to bits #selfsabotage !!!

Have eaten my nice leftovers for lunch and feeling more positive today. At least, last night, I didn't open the wine (came as near as dammit after 55 days alcohol-free)

Hi everyone Smile. I just went cold turkey when I stopped, but now I usually have 1x sweet treat per week. I'm happy to turn down some socially obligated sugar (e.g. cake at work), but not others (e.g. a friend's birthday cake).

It's important not to be too down heartened if you have a biscuit or whatever though - it doesn't negate all the hard work that you've done up until that point.

PosiePootlePerkins · 19/09/2016 14:22

Just checking in, I lost 1lb this week so I'm pleased, mostly doing well with it. Yesterday I had one glass of wine but it made me feel woozy and flushed (I have rosacea and alcohol is a trigger) so I am definitely continuing to stay off alcohol. I also caved and had a huge cheese topped roll (for some reason I lost all willpower yesterday!) but didn't really enjoy it and it left me feeling bloated. White bread is also clearly no good for me.
I am back on it today, had poached eggs for breakfast on one slice of granary bread, and couscous and turkey salad for lunch, and feel much much better already.

bestofbothhovis · 20/09/2016 18:59

Seems like a thread I can enjoy Wink inspired by my vegan relative who has came and cooked me the most the amazing meals this week I am going to try and eat wayyyy more healthier with the aim to slowly cutting meat based products out of my life!
I don't drink anyway so I feel like I'm already doing well in that aspect!

BreakingBod · 25/09/2016 18:35

Help! I'm a complete sugar addict, I've overdosed on an entire bag of mint aero bubbles today and feel sick. Going to have a big plate of broccoli with tuna mayo for dinner to try and negate the damage, and I just feel like my body is really crying out for nutrients Blush

My current regular eating pattern is often nothing for breakfast, then I start on the biscuits and/or chocolate around lunchtime, then maybe have a slice of bread and butter to tide me over. Dinner is very ad hoc, and might just be cheese and crackers, or soup and bread. Might snack on more chocolate or sweets, or some crisps in the evening.

I do loads of exercise and I'm not overweight (am a size 10/12, but I have a slim frame but a squidgy stomach).

I know I need to eat more healthily. I was recently diagnosed as anaemic and prescribed iron tablets, and my eating habits are getting a bit out of control. My plan is to get back to eating proper meals and stopping all the refined sugar. I'm not going to cut out carbs. If I stop filling up on sugary junk, hopefully I'll have more of an appetite for proper meals.

I need to get organised though and plan the food for the week, otherwise I end up grabbing whatever's available. I hate cooking, and am always too exhausted after work to bother, so I need quick/easy things which don't require much effort on my part.

I'm beginning to feel like a lost cause...Sad

BreakingBod · 26/09/2016 19:18

I suspect you're all eating Maltesers and guzzling wine somewhere...

I've had a typically sugary day but in my defence it's a Monday and I've had a long day at work. Started with a fruit and yogurt smoothie in an effort to get a couple of my 5-a-day in. Left the house at 7.30am so by mid-morning I needed a pack of Belvita biscuits Blush. Lunch was a sandwich, an apple and crisps (didn't even enjoy the crisps!) and there may have been a Wagon Wheel consumed somewhere along the way. Anyway, my main problem now is that I can't be remotely bothered to start faffing around cooking anything. This is the issue I think - breakfast and lunch I can easily plan meals for, but I just do not have the energy or inclination to prepare anything in the evening and so eat rubbish instead. I'm thinking that I may have to resort to good quality, pre-prepared meals if such a thing exists - do they, and can someone please point me in the right direction..?

Is anyone still successfully off the sugar around here? I know from past attempts that eating 3 satisfying meals (which include protein) is the way forward for me, as I'm then much less interested in sugar once I've had a nice meal. But that's what I'm struggling with at the moment...

DeliveredByKiki · 27/09/2016 00:31

I'm 3.5 weeks in on no refined sugar. Having fruit daily and have had a few cheats with honey but otherwise none. Also I broke the alcohol free lastvfriday with a margarita but other than that no alcohol

I haven't lost any weight though

PosiePootlePerkins · 27/09/2016 07:08

I'm doing OK, one glass of bubbles with friends at the weekend, other than that no alcohol. Still sticking to one slice of granary bread a day. Still avoiding biscuits, cakes, sweets. The weight loss is slow, but I think that's because its easy to snack on high calorie food like cheese, nuts etc, so that's my next goal, to snack less between meals. I have always found this hard simply because I seem to have a big appetite and get hungry in between meals.

BreakingBod · 27/09/2016 19:10

3.5 weeks is really impressive Kiki well done! I've managed about 10 days or so in the past, but was completely miserable. I just feel really deprived when I can't have any. I'm going to gradually cut down rather than cold turkey, as I think that suits me better. I've done quite well today - only 1 small strip of Milka chocolate, and much better with proper meals.
