How do I make my cousin cousin firmer?

I made stuffed peppers tonight, they tasted lovely but the cous cous was very loose and hard to eat. What should I add to firm it up a bit?

Love it Grin Best title in ages!

I cheated and used half a pack of the Ainsley Harriot stuff with some crumbled feta on top. Very nice but very messy.

Sounds like you added a bit too much liquid....

LaContessaDiPlump · 07/09/2016 21:50

I think you need a bit more oil to bind it together...

IHaveBrilloHair · 08/09/2016 16:40

When I did this to my uncle uncle I ended up stirring some houmous in to stick it together because it was very annoying to eat.

I have nothing else to add.

RiverTam · 08/09/2016 16:42

Oh dear, that's really made me giggle. I gave no helpful advice though!

RiverTam · 08/09/2016 16:42

Have, ffs!

DontBuyANewMumCashmere · 08/09/2016 16:43

I always put what water they say, a dribble of olive oil, stir and then leave it for 5 mins.
It's always lovely, much better than wet. There's nothing worse than a soggy cousin!

atticusclaw2 · 08/09/2016 16:43

No don't put more/any oil in it. Any added liquid will make it looser. You need to put less liquid in it to make it firmer.

Either that or you let it dry out too much. Was it sloppy or dry?

BeMorePanda · 08/09/2016 16:46

Cousin cousin is always bitty bitty though isn't it?
Unless you overcook it with too much a liquid and it goes stodgy and sticky.

Personally I find it a bit tasteless and blech for this reason.

Obviouspretzel · 10/09/2016 07:20

It sounds like you did it right (separate, loose grains) but that you don't like it that way and want it to stick together more? Sorry if that's wrong.

If you like it like that just add a touch more liquid when preparing.

takesnoprisoners · 10/09/2016 07:30

Grin this is the best title ever. I have nothing more to say. Grin

BikeRunSki · 10/09/2016 07:41

Put cous cous in a bowl. Cover cous cous with boiling water, just to the top of the grains, no more. Put a plate on top of the bowl. Leave it for 10 mins. It will be perfect.

MakeJam · 10/09/2016 09:02

Do you mean it was watery? You could put it in a sieve to drain and press down with the back of a spoon or wrap it in a clean tea towel and ring it out.
