breakfast ideas for 6 months old

Hi!!!

My DD is 6.5 months old. The problem is that she won't eat her breakfast. She hates baby rice & porridge, has cow's milk intolerance, won't eat any fruit. Just don't know what to do. May be you've got any suggestions.

Another thing is that I haven't introduced her to bread & pasta as I'm not sure from what age they are supposed to have it. All books say from 6 months, but on the packets (pasta shapes, bread sticks etc) it says from 7 months.

THank you very very much.

Lilia

I have given my son yogurt for breakfast since he was about 6 months old. Is your daughter's cow's milk intolerance to the lactose or to the actual milk. Yogurt doesn't have much lactose so it should be ok on that front, or I think you can get tofu yogurt or goat's/sheep's milk yogurt. I buy Yeo Valley (full fat) because it doesn't have any thickeners (ie starch or gum) added. Don't bother with the "baby" ones as they are the same thing, but cost more. My husband gives our son wheatabix too which he loves (personally i think it tastes like warmed up shredded cardboard).
Don't worry about the 7 months vs. 6 months. It's only a guide. Plus or minus a month or two isn't going to harm your child.

We gave her some fromage frais (strawberry) and she had a terrible reaction. Also I gave her some babyrice with cow's milk (she didn't eat much, just 1-2 baby spoons) and the area around her mouth became all red and itchy. Our HV said not to give her strawberries, fromage frais or yogurt. So, we don't realy know whether it's lactose or cow's milk.

Lilia, I'm not an expert, but the red and itchy sounds like a food allergy not lactose. It's not uncommon for people to be allergic to strawberries. But i haven't heard of that type of reaction to milk. Could it have been another ingredient in the babyrice? Can you get tests done? Consult a gp or allergy specialist? Good luck.
