I bought Tana Ramseys recently and that is quite good and the dcs have eaten everything I have made using that book also Jamie Oliver is ok for a few bits and pieces not too much though. Oh and Nigella is fabulous!!

decafskinnylatte · 30/01/2007 21:02

Not necessarily my 'bible' but I adore Tessa Kiros's 'Apples for Jam' and 'Falling Cloudberries'. Fabulous family cooking for every day/ special occasions and the books are beautiful; real feel good reading.

True chefs might find the recipes rather "pedestrian" (I think was the word used on Amazon) but they suit me very well!

hermykne · 30/01/2007 21:05

darina allens - ballymaloe cookery course one - it has absolutely everything in it and lots of the chefs mentioned here have visited her establishment.
not cheap but worth its weight

Spidermama · 30/01/2007 21:06

The River Cafe book.

Leiths Vegetaria Bible.

My mum's old Good Housekeeping Book from the 70s which contains a recipe for biscuits called Nignogs.

aDad · 30/01/2007 21:11

I am thoroughly enjoying Nigella's 'Feast' at the mo, and all the stuff I've cooked from it has been really gorgeous. My Delia's 'Complete' book is probably my most heavily used stand-by: for basics and classic dishes, it never fails. I also love baking, so Nigella's Domestic Goddess book is invaluable - but then I also have other quirky favourites, like an old American Diner cookbook, and a Moroccan one. I feel my next purchase might well be a book of Elvis's favourite dishes. Well, if it's good enough for The King.....

Tamasin Day Lewis's Kitchen Bible

CristinaTheAstonishing · 30/01/2007 21:21

WeightWatcher's "Time to Eat".

I believe WW know that most people are fat because they like to eat. So the recipes there are for BIG portions, nicely tasting food, but low calories. Perfect combination.

bandstand · 30/01/2007 21:23

my bible is delia complete, had it for yonks

lazyline · 30/01/2007 21:34

I like Delia, as her recipes always work, though I think that they are a bit overcomplicated.

Nigel Slater I love as he offers alternatives if you haven't got something and he is really down to earth.

Gordon too. Hate Nigella, her recipes are arse.

Flumpybumpy · 30/01/2007 21:35

Weight Watchers 'pure points' is fab

Another vote for Delia's Complete Cookery Course here - great for all the basics though can never get the rice pudding to work (another thread methinks!)
Have Nigella's Domestic Goddess from the library at the moment and can't bear to give it back, may have to get my own.

sunchowder · 30/01/2007 21:45

Thanks Cali!!! Yes we do have our very own "Sunchowders Emporia" which is a compilation of Mumsnetters recipes and lots of others from the USA. And....I also love Barefoot Contessa, Nigella (with adjusted baking times), Nigel Slater is great and I also love the Australian Womens Weekly series, their quick cook books are great.
