Reassurance for those with "fussy eaters" :)

My 4.5yo DD2 has always been incredibly fussy - right from weaning it was a nightmare. By the time she reached 4.5 she was still on a "restrictive" diet and very very reluctant to try new foods.

It used to make me feel really down, that I'd done something wrong (even though older 2 kids are fab eaters!).

However this has all changed since last week Was cooking some pasta, DD2 came up and asked if she could have some for dinner. Dished her some up and she sat and ate ALL of it!! The next night she ate spaghetti bolognaise.

Since then she has eaten all sorts - pasta/spag bol/lasagne/sausages/veggies (always been fab with fruit).

I can't even begin to tell you how I feel - as she tucked into her lasagne last night, I burst into tears!!

So to all of you with "fussy eaters", one day it may just "click". Never forced to her to eat stuff she didn't like and I must admit I did get a bit lazy cooking stuff that I knew she would eat.

I think what did it was the other week, I was chatting about her starting school (in Sept) and said that she'll be able to go and play at her friends houses some nights. Then I asked her what will happen if they asked her to stay for tea and they didn't have what she liked???"

I need some advice. My 4 year old will only eat a small selection of foods and will not try anything new. He gets very upset if we put anything different on his plate or serve something that isn't the food he generally eats. We have tried offering different atractively presented foods, not giving anything else if he doesn't eat it, but he won't give in even if he is very hungry.
What he does eat is generally healthy but not a huge selection and no veg although he will drink veggie smoothies. Should we ignore it and hope that when he becomes an adult he won't go to a restaurant and ask for spaghetti from a tin and toast with no butter or should we be looking at ways to get him to eat more of a variety of foods? I'm pretty worried about it but don't know if I should be?
