Hi, I am looking for a decent restaurant in Birmingham for later this year and have read mixed reviews of Le Petit Blanc. Has anyone been? Also, would they welcome my (very well behaved) 9 year old son? All comments or alternative recommendations welcome!

Denial is supposed to be very good (at the Mailbox)

Bank is supposed to be good I think; I've not been.

codswallop · 05/06/2004 21:47

has changed hands now - now owned by the loch fyine oster people I think

OldieMum · 05/06/2004 21:56

I've been only to the one in Oxford, which is very child-friendly, with excellent food. The service is not as good as the food, unfortunately.

Been a while back - however for info on Birmingham resturants go to here and don't forget to review it!

Bank is very good but not suitable for children (well I think anyway). Le Petit Blanc is OK - not great value but the food is OK, nothing special. The one everyone is talking about is a new resturant is one called Jessica's which is not in the centre, but just outside in Edgbaston. I have not read a bad review of it, but its small and booked up for months. Its supposed to be going for a mitchlin star. I also like the IKON gallery which does Tapas, but again I am not sure they like children in the evening.

Thanks everyone! I am planning to go to he BBC Good Food show at the NEC in November, so I will have plenty of time to book up. Will look into Jessica's, Cazzybabs and will try your link now Blackduck. I looked at the website for Bank but it doesn't seem the kind of place I'm looking for and also agree that it didn't seem ideal for kids in the evening (even though my ds would be very well behaved and is pretty adventurous foodwise.

Other good places are Le Toque d'Or and Paris. Really depends what you would like!

cazzybabs · 06/06/2004 13:35

Oh forgot - what about the good old Balti! Can't go to Brum and not have it.

Also chinese - try Henry Wongs.

Am so hungrey - dp went to the supermarket to get lunch things hours ago!

Blackduck · 06/06/2004 13:46

good cheap meal - Cafe Soya in the Arcadia...

oxocube · 06/06/2004 15:15

Looked at the menu for Paris and it seemed VERY expensive. I know I should really go to a good balti house, but we don't live in U.K and happen to have a good Indian near to us. What I really miss is French or good 'international' restaurants. Will keep checking!!

oxocube, we took our two for lunch and it was very nice, child friendly etc, Raymond Blanc makes a big point of welcoming children into all his places. They got colouring stuff and something to make etc.

helenmh · 09/06/2004 14:31

we also enjoyed petit blanc. we took our two boys and another family who have two boys. Very child friendly and nice food

Oxocube - have you checked out the website? It lists all places in Brum with reviews (the reviews are from 'real' peopel....!) If you want french Le Toque d'Or is great and won't break the bank - the lunch menu is a particularly good deal! Brum also has a Hotel du Vin

Clayhead · 12/06/2004 08:21

Oxocube, my friend took me and dd (9 months at the time) to Le Petit Blanc in Birmingham. It was really child friendly and I enjoyed it.

oxocube · 12/06/2004 16:18

Thanks, everyone! Wherever we go doesn't have to be 'kiddy friendly' IYSWIM as it will just be me, ds(9) and my brother. My ds is very into food and would see this as a real treat so would be very well behaved. It just needs to be somewhere where they won't turn their nose up at kids. And of course where the food is fab!

La Toque d'Or would get my vote then...
