If I wasn't home for dinner then there was cold leftovers for me. I think it's so rude to just walk over you like that. Don't bloody cook for them.

I love cooking for my teens too, it gives me so much pleasure and satisfaction and they are very grateful, I'm a feeder too though.

Of course occasionally they fend for themselves but if you're there why wouldn't you cook for them? As someone else Said, I would also cook for my DH.

We also do a lot of cold roast chickens, salads, nachos, wraps and condiments. And most meals can be kept warm on a plate, heated under foil or microwaved

an explanation, for one of my dc.
my veggie dd works in a restaurant, a couple of times a week, i never know whether she will need food when she gets home, quite late.11 is mostly
more and more they send her home with food Grin

so i am up a gum tree not knowing whether to save her food, make her food or rely on her having food with her

I'd save her food and if she's brought her tea back with her, then your food can micro up for lunch the next day for someone.

Alternatively keep eggs, bread, cheese, (those merchant gourmet premade lentil thingies for the micro), veg stirfries, etc in.

I'd rather over cater for tea and eat the next day than run the risk of not feeding enough.

Dh sometimes has dinner, often he's out with clients but he has to make it clear which he is doing - teenagers are exactly the same.

Slow cookers are really useful for this
Lots of recipes on mumsnet
Make the dinner
Can leave on warm and freeze what's left over or keep in fridge
Otherwise humus, cheeses, roast chicken, meats, bowl of salad, salad potatoes, lasagna heats really quickly
On a productive Sunday I cook a few meals that stay in the fridge ( not that long with teenage boys though)

Surprised you asked for food advice and ended up being told how to rear your children
