I've already got a freezer full of breadcrumbs. We like garlicky croutons - has anyone tried freezing homemade croutons with success? I'd imagine they might go soggy..? What else should I do with it all?

What kind of bread? Rolls or loaves?

Iguessyourestuckwithme · 13/07/2016 10:47

If sliced bread can you just freeze some single slices.

summer pudding.
Gazpacho (or indeed any bread based soup) will freeze well, as long as you don't add the raw veggies until serving..

Rolls and loaves!

Am really after stuff for the freezer rather than recipes...although I do love B&B pudding. Presume it freezes?!

Bread pudding (not the same as bread and butter pudding). Food of the gods.

Highlove · 13/07/2016 15:45

My freezer always has bread pudding in it (because DH overbuys bread). It freezes and defrosts really well.

Highlove · 13/07/2016 17:33

I've done it before but not for a while. Have you got a favourite recipe?

I just do it by eye now but roughly like this recipe.

I don't put peel in it and I just use whatever bread is around. I save the ends etc in a bag in the freezer until I have enough and then defrost it and make a big batch all at once I use all sorts, even hard ends of baguettes, scones etc. Its fine as long as it all soaks for long enough in the milk/egg mixture. The key is to make sure you've put enough mixed spice in it.

Now you've made me need bread pudding!

I've made garlic bread slices before, spread garlic butter onto bread slices then open froze then bagged them. Put them in toaster bag from frozen, they were fab. I used a baguette but sure rolls would work too

Cheese pudding. Soak all the bread in a milk and egg mixture ( you need enough for all the bread to go pappy), salt, pepper and more grated cheese than you think it possible to eat. Let it sit for a couple of hours then Bing in the oven until it is risen and golden. Eat hot or cold. Ketchup. Lie down to digest.
