Not a major problem or anything but... we visit great grandparents on a wednesday after school so i ususally like to have a tea that is very quick to cook. However, after much pressure from DS (bless him) i've promised him mash and sausages tonihgt. I'e cooked the sausages already and will then just re heat them under the grill. How far can i get with my mash please?

TIA

I've kept mash in the fridge for a day or two and it's been absolutely fine. if you want to keep it longer than that just freeze it.

can you really freeze mash?? sorry if this is super obvious?

Sugarmagnolia · 27/01/2007 17:44

Yes apparently you can. I never knew this either but my MIL does it all the time so I tried it and it was fine. I suppose it makes sense since you would freeze something like a shepherd's pie and then reheat it.

Makes sense to me.

but there is something about do or don't put milk in it if you are going to freeze it....

Sugarmagnolia · 28/01/2007 10:28

You might be right about the milk thing - I never thought about it as I frequently don't put milk in my mashed potato! I know that sounds wierd but for one thing DS can't have milk. And also dietary laws don't allow us to mix milk & meat (like in a shepherd's pie). I often just mix my mash with non-dairy marge and leave it at that. Sometimes a bit of veg stock or soy-milk if it's too dry.
