wedges

wash potatos, don;t need to peel, cut into wedges, put in a hot roasting tin with olive oil in it, sprinkle with paprike and a smidge of chilli powder , slam in the over ! voila !

Wedges?

Wash potatoes - no need to peel. Cut into wedges.

Put in a plastic bag with a little oil, some salt and pepper and some paprika or mild chilli powder or any other herb or spice of your choice. Seal the top of the bag and scrunch the wedges around in the oil and spices.

Tip onto a baking tray and cook for about 30-40 mins on gas 6.

Great minds lulu

fannyannie · 23/01/2007 16:43

fabulous - how can I argue with that idea?? Both of you agree so it's a great idea (especially as I don't have to peel) - can't actually believe I didn't think of them myself as I've done them before [duh]

Yup. Do wedges alot. Dont have a deep fat fryer, not about to get one. (Im scared of them ). So, we do 'lazy chips' instead

fannyannie · 23/01/2007 16:48

I don't have a frier either - just do my chips in the oven bit like roasts LOL

You could slice them thinly and layer on a baking tray with sliced onion, pour over veg stock and bake.

Or par poil, cut into slices (about the thickness of a pond coin) then lay on baking sheet with olive oil and roast. (I find this an easier and more effective way of making saute potatoes)

Or dice potatoes, sprinkle with - what;'s that really yellow spice - and chop up onion and garlic and roast

You could also slice thinly and butter roasting pan and pour over half cream half milk and roast.

oh b*gger I'm out of oil.....and have no way of getting to the shops until DH is back - which will be too late to cook dinner for the DS's.............ok - so now I have potatoes and butter.......

Do you have any onions, cream or cheese?

ComeOVeneer · 23/01/2007 17:26

Cheesey potato fans.

Potato, butter, breadcrumbs and grated cheese.

Preheat the oven to 220°C.
Peel the potatoes and cut thin slices through each potato, almost to the base.
Heat the butter in a roasting pan, add the potatoes, coating with the butter.
Bake in the preheated oven for 40-50 minutes, basting occasionally, until tender inside and crisp and golden on the outside. The cuts will open to form a fan effect.
Mix together the breadcrumbs and cheese, sprinkle over the top of the potatoes and return to the oven for a further 10 minutes.

potataoes boulangere, thinly slice, layer with seasoning and onion if you want, pour over some stock and a little milk, dot with butter, put in the oven 170-180 and leave for 1hrish....lovely!

gratin dauphinois

thinly slice potatos. Layer half of potatos in ovenproof dish. drizzle with melted butter / dot with butter. sprinkle on cheese of choice (gruyere is good) do another layer of potatos and cheese. bring 250ml of milk to boil, pour over potatos. bake at 200C for 30-40 min (until browned) let stand 10 min.

you can put pretty much anything in a potato gratin, garlic milk and cheese is good, onion cream and cheese, garlic onion and cheese ... you get the picture.

vvv I had a deep fat frier once, I couldn't be arsed to clean it any more so I chucked it
