If he's still getting breastmilk, he should be fine for calcium and fat. If you want to wean him off breastmilk, keep offering cow's milk, and reduce the number of feeds. He can also get fat from his regular diet, and calcium from yogurt and cheese.

Oh, blending milk up with a bit of banana or other fruit to make a smoothie can often get it down a child who doesn't like milk much. Milk on cereal, or in rice pudding, also counts towards the RDA.

well, he will survive without any milk, but I think the usual recommended amount is about a third of a pint a day, or a yoghurt or portion of cheese. If you live in a hard water area, there's calcium in the water, plus it's in pulses, green veg etc. and there's fat in, well, everything really apparently.

I may have imagined those amounts though. am a bit funny today.

By the time your son is 1, he should have a pint of milk a day. This includes all milk he has so if you put full fat milk on his weetabix in the morning this counts as well.

I stopped breastfeeding at 15 months, but had been slowly weaning him off for a few months before that, first offering him expressed milk in a bottle, then moving on to formula and then starting to mix cows milk with the formula. For the last couple of weeks he's been only having cows milk.

Hope this helps

Only 1 of my 4 children liked milk as a drink. The recommendation is a pint a day. I used milk in cereal, they ate cheese, yogurts and milk puddings. There really is no particular need to ensure milk is taken as a drink as well. If you 'google' it you will find that some people state that children should actually not be given milk to drink at all.
