bread (I know mr miaow does but not sure about defrosting it)

cakes - either sponge or fruit, am thinking do a big one then freeze it into portions, then either defrost a portion and have cold or defrost heat up bit of custard and a nice pudding.

I freeze bread in slices and then either leave out to defrost on an open plate (if covered tends to go soggy) or just bung straight into the toaster.
Cakes, not sure, but I know you can freeze cake and biscuit mixture! No help, sorry!

no that is kit thanks. I didn't know you could do the mix - that's good actually as I make loads of the fork cookies but eat them all incase they go off lol.

You might have to be a bit careful about defrosting sponge cake mix - biscuits mix should be ok, but the raising agent in cake mix can go off if you leave the wet mixture lying around for too long and then the cake doesn't rise properly in the oven.

I freeze bread like kitbit. You can also freeze crumpets and muffins and toast straight from frozen.

Your can freeze bread cooked or partbaked (eg cook for about 15min) then finish when ready to eat. I you have frozen a cooked loaf thaw over night i would the splash with water then refresh in the oven for about 10 min to crisp up.

Sponge cakes can be frozen but need to be cook first.

With fruit cakes you either wrap tightly in clingfilm and foil and put in a airtight tin or freeze.

thanks girls -DH's eyes have rolled when I told him my intentions! althou he's also pleased when I go away he'll not have to worry about dinners as they'll be there ready for him.

going to try the sponge caek tonight and wrap it in clingflim/foil once cool - I wasn't going to ice that section that will be OK won't it?
