Fresh fish use by dates.... Help.

I got some haddock from Tesco fish counter yesterday but have decided to go out for dinner tonight rather than eat that.
The date that they person at the counter put on it is today (10th April). It seems odd to think it won't be fit for consumption tomorrow (48 hours after purchase). How can I check?

Is it a fillet? Smoked or unsmoked?

It's an unsmoked fillet. DP wants to make an omelette with it in.

Ok it should smell of the sea, look moist and firm, no colour change and no gaping of the flesh. If it was fresh when sold it should be fine.

Oh same question - just noticed the salmon fillets we got are out of date today but we are having them tomorrow. Should we freeze them?

It's fine salty! I get a lot of fresh salmon so would be interested to know too.

Salmon again should not smell too much; it has a very definite different smell when it's on the turn. Also salmon flesh can turn a bit opaque as it goes 'off'
