Mandolin slicer recommendations?

Been having a look on Amazon at ones which come with a glove?! Is it worth getting one of those or just a bog standard one? I'm pretty confident in the kitchen but I don't have the time or the skills to slice that thinly with a knife. I had a mandolin slicer once with a plastic bit you stab into the veg, this was fiddly, wobbly... Ended up chucking it out. Anyone got a decent recommendation?

Get a fucking glove! I sliced my thumb on a mandolin and thought I might die.

Oh god that's what I'm afraid of! Have you got a glove?

Or maybe i'd be better off with a good processor with a slicing attachment...?

I really really like this one. Quick and simple to use, no assembly time like with the multi blade ones. Dishwasher safe.

If you search for mandolin on Amazon loads of the gloves come up.

I prefer it over the food processor as I can do long strips of carrot or courgette.

I have this one it's quick and easy but you do need to treat with respect. Their julienne one was shit though, took it back. I'd forgotten it came with a proddy thing, I don't use it, am just very, very careful when getting near the end. You have to look what you're doing as it goes through very quickly.

You don't need a proper glove for one, just buy kevlar oven gloves too and use those.

Second getting a glove. Ours has a food holder which i forgot to use. Hence the chunk out of my finger and lots of blood. Those things really are sharp!

I have the Good Grips one.

Lethal things. An older friend sliced the top of his finger right off. Dh later put the wretched thing in the dustbin. Friend was put out, despite his finger - he just loves gadgets. - 'I paid forty quid for that!'

I won't have a mandolin in my kitchen. Use a food processor.

I trained in professional kitchen environment for a short while and the chef who trained us told us the horrific accidents that happen with them. One man cut the side of his hand off with a huge flap of skin hanging from the mandolin, him screaming and blood everywhere.

Just get a food processor.

I've bought one! I am going to use it very rarely so couldn't justify the space and cost of a processor. It's got one of those things with the prongs, but I may have to get a glove too now!
