toasted muffins

That's the choice in our house.

emkana · 04/01/2007 23:37

porridge oats
pour over hot milk (heated up in microwave)
serve up with chopped banana and raisins

dead easy and the dd's LOVE it
less faff than "properly" cooked porridge

themoon66 · 04/01/2007 23:44

Cooked porridge is not a faff if done in the microwave.

Put a couple of tablespoons of bog standard porridge oats into a glass jug. Top up to about 6oz mark with milk. Stir. Microwave for 30 secs on full. Stir. Microwave on full another 30 secs. Stir. Add a bit of honey. Stir. Microwave 30 secs on full.

Porridge - cooked - 1 and half mins.

oat cakes with jam (fruit spread) or honey very popular here

colditz · 05/01/2007 00:46

Cheese on toast.

Lorina · 05/01/2007 10:37

Things on toast ie poached eggs, scrambled eggs, baked beans or the tins of beans and sausages. Spaghetti hoops and grated cheese.

Bacon butties

Fishfinger sandwhiches are always popular here

Also potato cakes instead of toast are a favourite. I dry fry them in a non stick pan ,or if we have bacon i do them in together, yummy!

Crumpets with an egg on top.

I think during the cold months a hot breakfast is a good idea and most of mine are pretty quick.

We always have fruit juice with breakfast to balance it out a bit

Bugsy2 · 05/01/2007 11:27

I often give mine the left overs from supper the night before - particularly in the winter. DS had mashed potatoes & sausage this morning.
Have you tried brioche - they are yummy & you can fill them with plain or savoury fillings.

yeahinaminute · 05/01/2007 11:31

Pancakes with lemon, raisins and a little maple syrup always go down well - I make the batter the night before and they don't take long to cook... another big favourite is eggy bread ... failing that pretty much anything spread with the vileness known as marmite!!

NAB3 · 05/01/2007 11:38

Mine have porridge with some corn flakes and bran flakes on top. Toast, pancakes, croissants, crumpets, fruit, milk , water.

bummer · 05/01/2007 14:12

WOW I have been rather blinkered when it comes to breakfast haven't I so many great ideas! Thanks

dizzyju · 05/01/2007 14:29

Toasted teacake?

cardy · 05/01/2007 14:44

Mine have the choice - either cereal or mixed fruit (e.g. melon, grapes, kiwi) followed by toast or a bagel. It usually works out that they have about 50/50 each week.

slalomsuki · 05/01/2007 14:49

Brioche is a big hit in our house. I either buy it in a loaf form and give them slices or Tesco do it in a small roll form and I give them a couple.
At the moment we are havinig a Brioche, cheese and Satsuma week but next week it will change. Ds2 like porridge with no sugar and ds1 will eat toast. DD just eats anything.

StrawberrySnowflakes · 05/01/2007 14:56

Scottish pancakes (not the ones doused in syrup) with a bit of butter and a yogurt or aa piece of fruit and yogurt
