I have just got a pasta meal I had made and frozen for DS2. I think it has freezer burn. Is it safe for him to eat? He is 18m. TIA.

Well, I gave it to him and he was fine but I would still like to know for future occurances.

Freezer burn is a food-quality issue, not a food safety issue. It appears as grayish-brown leathery spots on frozen food. It occurs when air reaches the food's surface and dries out the product. This can happen when food is not securely wrapped in air-tight packaging. Color changes result from chemical changes in the food's pigment. Although undesirable, freezer burn does not make the food unsafe. It merely causes dry spots in foods. Cut away these areas either before or after cooking the food. When freezing food in plastic bags, push all the air out before sealing.

copied and pasted, I was keeping a lookout for an answer too!

Only just come across this.
The crystals are merely water condensing and then freezing onto the surface of the food. It's absolutely nothing to worry about, as long as your defrost thoroughly and then ensure food is cooked through.
Make sure that you cool the food down to room temperature before popping it in the fridge for an hour then pop it into the freezer. The reason for this is that if you put hot or warm food straight into the freezer, it will raise the temperature in your freezer which causes frost build up. If you have a fast freeze option on your freezer, do switch it on a couple of hours BEFORE you add any food in.
