I read a tiny piece in the Independent yesterday - not much info but basically the food advisory council has decided that cheese is less healthy than ...well...just about anything incl crisps. Not sure quite what the truth is but does anyone else have any more info.

But if this is an accurate story "Cheese as junk food" ....does anyone else think this is too stupid for words?

The French are the least obese nation in Europe.

I don't know a French person who would eat a low fat version of a traditional cheese.

How to make a cheese sauce was just about the only useful thing I learned in five yrs of comprehensive education. Now even that isn't taught.

I read that book, "French Women don't get Fat". It was really good. Backs up what is being said here.

My mother hated milk as a child and had bad osteoporosis so I've always tried to drink a pint of milk a day but I suspect we'd all be better cramming ourselves with the same nutrients from beans etc actually, but most of us won't bother so milk will have to do, but as a poorer substitute.

Cheese is a processed food. I think the closer you stay to raw the better for you in general as an eating principle.

organic milk..is a better source of omega three etc than non organic, I wonder if this applies to cheese as well

of course eating cheese is a pleasure and it is a product where you can take a real interest in flavour and the production cycle and support artisan cheese makers using both traditional and ground breaking skills so a bit more intellectually stimulating than some food stuffs

and you can even make it yourself..curd cheese is fun for children to make and can be given lots of interesting flavours or eaten with fruit..in fact cheese complements fruit well another good reason for not junking it

Was reading an article in the dr's surgery new years day (walkin centre) and apparantly they've done a study where they had 2 sets of women, one following a detox diet, and the other eating 'normally' (i.e., whatever they fancied) and they found that there was no difference in either groups levels of toxins in the body.

Thus concluding that your body can get rid of toxins perfectly well on it's own.

I know it's nothing to do with cheese though

it would be a bit strange if our bodies couldn't naturally get rid of toxins we would all be dead frankly

Eating too much saturated fat doesn't necessarily make you fat - it can affect your cholesterol levels though. But if it's eaten alongside a good amount of fruit, veg, fish etc. I would think that's teh most sensible approach.
