has it been going on for a while??

rhubarbcat · 28/12/2006 22:15

It could mean there's a problem with his bile duct, or could be due to an infection. Is he well in himself? Has he had a tummy bug recently? Is his urine darker than normal?

luciemule · 28/12/2006 22:16

Not saying this to worry you but when I had gall stones, the emergency doctor I saw said that a sympton can be pale/white poo. After a couple of months I had my gall bladder removed and everything's fine now. I don't actually remember my poo being white and I'm sure poo can be pale or white for other reasons - just thought I'd mention it. Also not very sure if kids get gall stones

FrumpytheGrumpyreindeer · 28/12/2006 22:17

can be linked with coeliac disease, inability to digest gluten. DDs friend has coeliac disease and I remember her mum talking about white poo.

3Ddonut · 28/12/2006 22:18

I have a gall stone and the GP was suprised at someone my age (29) so I doubt a 1 year old could have them! Not certain it's impossible though?! Isn't pale poo usually a symptom of an intolerance or malabsorption of some kind?

rhubarbcat · 28/12/2006 22:19

If its been going on for longer than a couple of days its probably good idea to take him to see the GP just to be checked out. Probably nothing though

FrumpytheGrumpyreindeer · 28/12/2006 22:19

sorry that sounded matter of fact

SparklyXmasKat · 28/12/2006 22:20

I was thinking about coeliacs too. My dd2 had pale poo when she was younger and she was tested for coeliacs.

rhubarbcat · 28/12/2006 22:20

Frumpy - I always think the same when I read my posts back

FrumpytheGrumpyreindeer · 28/12/2006 22:20

pronounced see lee ack (coeliac)

FrumpytheGrumpyreindeer · 28/12/2006 22:21

rhubarb , I'm typing fast, sneakily, hiding my MN secret from DP

PeachysaysBlwyddynNewyddDda · 28/12/2006 22:24

With babies its a sign of jaundice, so it can relate to health issues of that ilk (eg liver)- as such I would suggest a GP appointment asap, just to be on the safe side.

rhubarbcat · 28/12/2006 22:26

I blame my job I'm used to trying to get a medical history in the space of a few minutes!

moljam · 29/12/2006 13:08

A white poo is definitely a sign there is something wrong. A trip to the docs is needed. Hope it soon improves.

moljam · 31/12/2006 15:40

doctors have said so long as hes ok in himself doesnt matter what colour poo is!just got odd baby.

3Ddonut, I'm only 31 and I had 46 gallstones, not hugely common but not that surprising either!

indigNativity · 31/12/2006 15:46

My ds gets this when he has had too much milk. He is 4 now, but think that it happened when he was 1.

moljam · 31/12/2006 22:26

indignavity,my lo is 1.he does have about 4 x 8oz milk plus a day!so could be it!!!thanks

My ds and dd both had this when they had a tummy bug. With dd she was sick also, but ds (15months) didn't seem to have any other symptoms.

somersetmum · 01/01/2007 21:22

Is he drinking cows' milk yet? My ds had this problem when I changed him on to cows' milk. He had white poo and bouts of diarrhoea. It took me a while to realise it was down to the milk It turned out that the full-fat milk was too rich for him. By changing to semi-skimmed, the problem was solved. hth

moljam · 02/01/2007 14:00

yes he is drinking full fat cows milk,is it ok to give semi skimmed?

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 02/01/2007 14:04

IME (and only IME) pale poo can be due to too much fat going through without being digested, so milk might indeed be the cause.
However I'd think about reducing fatty foods elsewhere in his diet before using semi-skimmed milk as a main drink for a 1yo...

moljam · 02/01/2007 14:09

thanks think i will contact hv and ask about milk.why cant he just have normal poo?!

OP posts:
princessmel · 02/01/2007 14:10

Not sure if someones said this but I'm sure its related to Wheat intolerance.
