I'm doing sausages wrapped in bacon to go with our christmas dinner, thing is, the sausages are frozen and obviously the bacon is not.

What would be the best way to go about making them.

Thanks in advance.

I think that's fine. I would defrost the sausages or the bacon will be burnt to a crisp before the sausages are cooked through. I think. But I buy frozen pigs in blankets cos I can't be arsed to faff this year!

I'd let them defrost and then cook it altogether.

Remember to stretch the bacon before you wrap it so it doesn't unfold and it's nice and tight.

thaw the sausages

wrap in the bacon (NB kids love doing this - make them work for their dinner)

shove in oven

scoff with joy and turkey!

ignore the "I think that's fine bit", I changed my mind mid post!

ledodgychristmasjumper · 21/12/2006 18:20

No you don't need to use egg.

dingdongmerRADLEYonhigh · 21/12/2006 18:21

Making more of an effort this year as we've got friends coming round (dh invited em) but i'm doing everything myself as dh is working till 7am christmas day.

If you wrap a sage leaf in the bacon (you know, between the sausage and the bacon) it tastes really nice.....fresh sage tho, don't put a sprinkle of dried in - it'll taste yuk!

RubberDuckWithCranberrySauce · 21/12/2006 19:12

My foolproof method is: go to Tesco. Buy the little sausages wrapped in bacon. Bung in oven. Ta da

UCM · 22/12/2006 06:09

You could also put a toothpick through it once wrapped, helps keep the bacon on. Break off the ends so they don't burn.

I assume she asked about egg as in for binding, as it's used eg for sticking bread crumbs.

dingdongmerRADLEYonhigh, as others have said, just thaw sausages, wrap tightly, use coctail stick to fix. EIther remove stick or serve with. my dc's for some reason seem to think it's a major excitement to eat stuff with a coctails tick. I think it stems from the ikea cafe. needless to say, it happens like once a year, so they think it's a real treat lol.

gingermonkey. will try the sage tip, thanks, but not for the kids. green stuff?? yeuk

gingermonkey · 22/12/2006 11:52

lol ernest, my dd is 7 and she makes sick sounds when a green thing goes near her! Ds is a bit of a freak, he's 14mths and thinks green is best - he gets excited by spinach. He is repulsed by most meat things (unless disguised as mince!). I have to hide veg in dd's food and meat in ds's!!! It's obviously a phase and something he's sure to grow out of tho! Ha ha! Try soaking the cocktail sticks in water, they won't burn then and pancetta is better than normal bacon because it crisps up really nicely.
