Any ideas for nice nibbles for Christmas Eve/New Year?

Hi

Usually when we have friends/family coming round I go to the supermarket and buy packs of dry nibbles and some that you cook in the oven. I think they go down ok but I personally don't think they taste that great. Our local M&S is tiny and always out of stock at Christmas/New Year and I don't have a freezer large enough to buy in advance so does anyone have any tried and tested bought/homemade yummy nibbles?

Thanks

Lucy

tuna bites, a tin of tuna some grated cheese an egg and some ritz biscuits. crush the ritz and add tuna egg and cheese. place blobs on baking tray and bake it brown. you can also make then without the tuna and put a little fried onion in instead.

i bought 'love it' magazine today (well it passes the time!) and theres some recipes in there.

cream cheese ham and avocado bites:

80g cream cheese
1 avocado
100g thinly sliced ham
2tbsp lemon juice
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/2 baguette, thinly sliced into 12 rounds and toasted

spread cream cheese on one side of each baguette round
cut avocado in half. thinly slice.
squeeze lemon juice over avocado to stop browning.
place one slice on each round
cut ham into 2cm slices.
ruffle meat and place on top of avocado
pepper over top to season

feta cheese puffs:

150g feta cheese,crumbled
4 spring onions
2tsp lemon juice
black pepper
350g puff pastry
1 egg,beaten

heat oven to 200c,400f,gas 6
mix together cheese and onions
add lemon juice season with pepper
roll out pastry to 2 1/2 mm thickness
cut into rounds of 8cm diameter
brush each round with egg and place mixture of cheese in centre of each.
fold 2 sides together to make a mini half moon shape
put on baking sheete and brush wuth egg
chill in fridge for at least 10 mins
bake for 10-15 mins
allow to cool before serving

Sweet onion, sun dried tomato and thyme tartlets:

4-8 sheets filo pastry
2-3 tbsp veg oil (light)
another 2tbsp light veg oil
2 small onions peeled and finely sliced
1tbsp runny honey
4tsp chopped sun dried toms
1/2 tsp chopped fresh thyme
thyme to decorate

you need a 1x24 mini yorkshire pudding tin.
brush one sheet of filo pastry lightly with oil and cut into 5cm squares. take one square and overlap with another placed diagonally on top, looks like 8 point star.
put the star shapes in all the holes in the tin and fill each with a little bit of mixture.

dont know if these are what youre looking for?hope that helps

Thanks Corrina and Steffy - that's exactly what I'm looking for

Whilst I was shopping today I bought some round cutters so I think I'll do some toasted bread and put some nice toppings on it too

Thanks

Lucy
