Anyone got any good, easy sweet recipes I can make with my ds's (5 and 3) to give to friends? Like chocolate truffles or something similar.
Any ideas gratefully received....

have a look at

this site

can't vouch for how easy they might be, but there's lots on there. just one word of caution though - if you make the fudge make sure you use a big saucepan, as if it boils over you'll be cleaning it up for weeks. take it from one who found out the hard way

also, you could make microwave fudge - you need:

1 tin condenced milk
500 g caster sugar
125 g butter
couple of drops vanilla essence

put the sugar, butter, and condenced milk into a large (make sure it is large, as again, boiling over hazzard applies) bowl and place in the microwave. microwave on medium for 5 minutes then remove and stir well until all the sugar has desolved. then place back in the microwave and microwave on high for 12 minutes (you may need more or less time dependent on how powerful your microwave is) until the mixture has gone darker colour and reached soft wall stage. Then remove and stir in a few drops of vanilla essence, pour out on to a greeced baking tray, leave to cool for 5 minutes then mark out squares then leave to set.

Obviously the kids can't really help with the making of the fudge but they could help to package it up?

white choc cranberry fudge

3 375g pkts of white choc melts
2 tins - 395g sweetened condensed milk
3/4 cup icing sugar -
1 cup chopped dried canberries ( also called craisins)
(I also put in sultanas and would do some sort of nut if I knew the person did not have a nut allergy)

METHOD:

  1. In a double boiler ( I just use saucepan inside another that has boiling water in it ) over a low heat - melt and mix the sweetened condensed milk and the white choc melts
  1. when melted and thick, remove from the heat, add the icing sugar and the fruit/nuts.
  1. pour into a baking paper lined slice tray.
  1. Chill in the fridge until set ( I leave mine over night)
  1. CUt into fingers/squares. ( have also done these into patty cases.

or

rocky road

choc melts - 2 pkts - white/dark/milk -whatever you like

2pkts marshmallows

2 pkts jellies or gummy sweets
coconut
nuts ( but not if they are for presents)

METHOD:

Melt the choc

chop the marshmallows and sweets ( if necessary)put into a slice tin

cover with melted choc

refrigerate until sets cut into squares

EAT

Alternatively you can throw the sweets into the choc and put them in patty cases.

hope that helps.

Rocky road is always a favourite in our house.

Sugar mice. icing sugar, egg white, peppermint flavouring. clean hands. liquorice tails. almond ears.

gingerbread tree decorations (our favourite this year). make gingerbread with holes at the top - stars, trees, angels, bells, hearts. ice and decorate and put ribbon through holes to hang it up.

great - I just came on here to find a recipe to make with the DC as presents for the family, and to fill the days at the end of the week when they are off school.

Thanks
