Gingerbreads a on the tree

What went wrong?

I bought some lovely Xmas cutters and made lots of Gingerbreads, pain-stakingly threaded ribbon through them all and hung them on the tree, expecting them to mature and because nice and brittle, ready to eat a week or two later.
They have all gone soft.

mine have as well....I didn't expect to eat them though as the cat has been sniffing them. At this rate they will be dripping on the floor by Christmas

That's what biscuits do when you leave them out in the air, hence why you usually keep them in airtight containers to keep them fresh.

I didn't think people really ate stale biscuits used as tree decs.

of course it's an edible decoration, why wouldn't people eat them?

Because they go stale, basically I wouldn't eat any other biscuit that had been left out of the biscuit tin for ages. Just like no one eats popcorn garlands, right? Do they?

Ours went soft, fell off and the dog ate them!
