Hi,

I do red cabbage and it is so so easy....You'll like this!
Ok, get a heavy saucepan (I actually use a pressure cooker but I do not actually pressure cook the recipe, if you see what I mean!)
Add a little oil in the bottom.
chop an onion finely and gently sweat in the pan.
Meanwhile cut your red cabbage the way you like. Some like very fine threads, I myself like more chunky pieces, say 2 inches by 1 inch? add to pan and stir to coat. It will sizzle away. Watch it doesnt burn. Now chop a granny smith apple (or your choice of make) the Granny smith ones do not fall apart so look nice in the finished dish.
Add to the cabbage and stir around.
Now I add about 2 large tablespoonsfull of golden syrup. (This is the first choice. If you havent syrup you can use about 3 or 4 tablespoons of brown sugar. I have used that in emergency and it worked just as well!)
then add a good slosh...say about 4 to 6 tablespoons or vinegar. then cover and let the cabbage steam. Add a little more vinegar if it gets to dry. I find this is very fast to make. I can make it about 20 minutes before being used. but it will also keep too, so you ccan make the day before and reheat. It seems pretty foolproof and its so tasty!
Hope this works for you!

But to this recipe....add 1/4 pint red wine or stock, 1/2 teaspoon powdered cloves or 5 whole cloves, 1/2 teaspoon grated nutmeg and lots of black pepper to spice it up a bit.

I have just had this for tea with sausages and it was delicious!!

Takes about an hour to simmer until cooked. Can then keep in fridge several days and heat up when needed.
