Christmas day breakfast ideas?

Due to a combination of events, I will it seems, for the first time, be doing Christmas dinner myself this year for myself, DH and DD. It's actually a relief to be home most of the day. However I think we will have to go to see my family late morning until early afternoon so probably won't be able to start cooking dinner until about 3pm, so hoping to have Christmas dinner ready for about 5pm-ish (early enough for us to be able to eat with DD who will be 15 months then). I was thinking maybe about doing a brunch thing in the morning to tide us over until then? However as I'm doing lots of cooking in the afternoon I don't want to spend loads of time cooking in the morning as well (nor have loads of washing up). I was thinking of maybe something like pancakes? It's also complicated slightly by the fact that I'm veggie and DH and DD are not. Any other ideas?

Half a toasted English muffin, topped with naice ham or smoked salmon, poached egg and holandaise sauce

For Christmas brunch we do scrambled eggs and gravadlax on five grain bread, with prosecco or Buck's Fizz to go with it. Perfect light meal and leaves a bit of room for the cheese/paté/cold meats lunch we have mid afternoon, with good ales to go with it. We always have Christmas dinner at five or six, whenever it's done, which I love as it's so much relaxed and cosy in the morning, and we can just loll about for most of the day.

I love having a cosy, relaxed Christmas at home Xmas Smile

We often have bagels with smoked salmon and cream cheese. Easy to prepare, delicious and feels like a treat.

We do a buffet of croissants, pain au chocolat, fresh fruit salad, bagels, smoked salmon and cream cheese or scrambled eggs, with bucks fizz for grown ups and OJ with fizzy water for DC.

I like the sound of your breakfast buffet, Mrs M, might nick that idea.

Cinnamon buns, cranberry muffins, mince pies... I can't wait. Just wish I could get rid of MIL and FIL who have invited themselves to stay. Was so looking forward to XMas morning with just the 4 of us.

I'm going to do these Smile

Smoked salmon and oatcakes or brown bread.

With champagne.

But we don't have young DC Grin

We cook shitloads a few packs of bacon first thing and pop it all in our slow cooker to keep warm. Bread rolls and ketchup on the table and everyone helps themselves. We have the youngest child in the family so tradition dictates everyone comes to us in the morning before departing home for dinner. Works really well. And everyone loves bacon!

Smoked salmon and cream cheese or scrambled egg bagels, bucks fizz and fresh fruit salad. Loads of fresh coffee with frothy milk. DC have pain au chocolat and croissants or waffles and maple syrup. I keep a whole range of pastries in the freezer over Christmas and warm through whatever people fancy on the day.

Err, doesn't everyone have Quality Street for breakfast on Christmas Day Confused CD first breakfast chez Banffparents is chocolate, eaten whilst opening the presents first thing. Last year I managed to trough down half of one of the big Hotel Chocolat slab things before 9am. Second breakfast once the present/chocolate frenzy has died down is usually bacon sandwiches or bagels with scrambled eggs and bacon or smoked salmon with Buck's Fizz. There's always toast, crumpets, fruit, croissants, pain au chocolat etc. as well though in case someone fancies something different.

KitKat1985 · 25/11/2015 18:48

Oh there will be chocolate on Christmas morning too for sure! Grin

RhubardandMustard those santa pancakes look great!
