Are Tomatoes Poisonous?

No, I dont't really think they are but am hoping for some calming advice! Don't ever post (am strictly a lurker), but dd (she's 2) has alarming red rash over entire body at the mo, doctor was frankly rubbish (viral my a*se). Have a sneaky suspicion dd may have reacted to home made bolognaise sauce she ate at dinner time, as rash has got worse since she went to bed. Has anyone seen anything similar?

some people are allergic to tomatoes (my FIL for one)

DD has got some other allergies but this rash is a stinker! Do you know if anti histamines might work if it's not better by morning?

I once became covered (literally) in a red (not violent red though) rash within an hour - and it went away on its own too. I had eaten something with tomatoes in, which I do suspect - but had eaten loads before and loads since and it never happened again.

Did you or dr do the glass test? Sure it's fine but I always do it with any rash, just to be on the very safe side.

Done the glass test, all faded, thank god. She doesn't have any other symptoms at all, seems strangely proud of herself for causing such a kerfuffle .

Could be an allergy. You could try Piriton, and see if it helps.

dumperlumper · 08/12/2006 22:27

Will hit the chemist's tomorrow if not gone by then, had forgotten small things could take Piriton, thanks myrrh. Am feeling very reassured as no-one has any horror stories, complete with swelling tongues & goggle eyes (yet).

It is possibly a post viral rash, DS got these when he was 2-3.

Funny people these DRs.......... they tend to know what they are tallking about.

DP was covered in a rash a few years ago - really angry red pimply rash that eventually joined up. He was pretty poorly with it and it made sense that he had an allergy to a virus that it was put down to. Never seen before and never since!
Although tomatoes do give DP migraines if he has an overload. They seem to suit some people and definitely not others!
I would go with the viral allergy until you get something more damning on the tomato front personally.

Am absolutely sure doc knows much better than me, unfortunatley mine shouts the word 'viral' & hands me a prescription for amoxycillin so often I swear he'd do the same if I bumped into hin at Sainsburys. Sorry for any offence tho, am just this side of panicky.

lol Sherlock.
cynic

don't worry dumperlumper. I can't see any offence! It is worrying when they first get a particular (alarming) thing. DP first got his rash when he was 36. It was alarming I can assure you. It also went away after a couple of days with no harm done

Will have to cut back on my late night caffeine & learn to trust the experts again! Thanks for all the input .
