What does your 14 mth old eat each day?

DS is 14 mths and I'm concerned that he's not eating that well. Here is a typical day
7.30 - one & a half weetabix or one weetabix with a mashed banana for breakfast. Then a satsuma (which he just sucks the juice from) Then milk.

10.30 -11am - few rice cakes / breadsticks / organic fruit bar / raisins / or nibbles apple slices etc (obv not all of these - just one choice)

12.30 Lunch - now this could be a AK dish I've made, or bagel with cream cheese, or toast,or pasta, or dish of something I cooked for me and DH the night before. But sometimes he won't eat it at all. It's very frustrating, esp when I've made something from scratch - what a waste! This is sometimes followed by fruit pot or yoghurt.

5pm Dinner - as lunch. He has water available all day. Is this normal? Sometimes it feels that all he's actually eaten is toast and rice cakes with a bit of fruit thrown in! Can I just add that he is a big boy and is not losing weight or anything!

mine's the very same. only your ds sounds like he eats more than mine!
he just ate a whole yogurt and that, for him, is amazing!
i think some kids just aren't that interested in food.
is he BF? or does he get a bottle?

Sounds like more than my 2yr old eats!

My 13 month old has :

7.30am Weetabix
9am Toast
10am Milk (sometimes)
12 noon cheese on toast/sandwiches, fruit and a few choccy buttons if i have them in the house
5pm same tea as we have - meat, pots & veg
7pm milk

She is a BIG girl though and loves her food.

My 2yr old can survive on cereal, toast and youghurt!

JARM - when you say cheese on toast; how much does she eat? a whole piece of bread? if i get ds to eat a couple 20p size pieces we're having a good food day!

shoobaloo · 07/12/2006 09:56

DS has bottle of organic whole milk - but won't always drink it! And when I say toast, I mean probably around half a slice. Same with the bagel, prob half a bagel. Just doesn't seem to be much variety there, but was talking to one of my friends and they said when they were a baby they only ate cubes of cheese and apple!

Sounds completely normal to me.

My 14 month old has a bit of cereal for
breakfast or half a toast with cheese or youghurt with fruit.

At lunchtime he has a chicken with rice or fis with something or similar - sometimes eats lots, other times very little - average is probably 4 or 5 (adult size) spoons.

He has 3-4 rice cake in the afternoon and then a huge amount of fruit at around 5pm - he will virtually eat as much as I give him, especially blueberries.

At 7pm he has potato & leek or rice with veg or similar - this is his biggest meal for the day - average 6 or 7 spoons.

On somedays he will only eat the fruit though and couple of spoons of food.

He is also a big boy - 75 centile on weight, 90th on lenght

Shoobaloo that sounds fine to me.

In partic that's a good breakfast, weetabix and a portion of fruit and a cup of milk is what all mine eat (inc the hungry 7yo).

Good variety too.

Thanks Clary! I just worry that he's not getting enough veg. There is some veg in the dishes that I make but he doesn't always eat them - grrr! I have this image in my head that he should be eating brocolli and spinach!

my 14 month old has

Bfst:
bowl of cereal
slice of toast
fruit - like half a banana or some grapes, pieces of melon (this morning it was pineapple

some kind of snack mid morning - raisins, biscuit, fruit bar, fruit - varies

Lunch
Normally our main meal - a reasonable portion of fish pie or cottage pie etc with veg
Yogurt for pud

sometimes a snack in the afternoon

Supper
last night it was gnocchi with hidden veg sauce - and he was still hungry afterwards so made some 'pizza' i.e. bread with hidden veg sauce on it, with ham and cheese
Fruit for pud

He eats a lot I think but there are days where he boycotts everything. He eats double what my almost 3 year old has

JARMgotstuckupthechimney · 07/12/2006 10:43

For becky, its usually half a slice of cheese on toast, but a whole slice of normal toast.

She is a food monster and eats way more than my 2yr old.

my 2 yr old will eat on average...

tiny amount of cereal
one slice of toast - no crusts (fussy moo!)
half a slice of bread
fruit
half a yoghurt
4/5 mouthfuls of a cooked meal
milk x 2 bottles
