Considering a soupmaker - anyone got any experience?

yes bought one about a week ago. Excellent, really pleased with it. would recommend getting one with saute function...

Just need to put a bit more effort in to finding nice recipes...

No, not worth it. All you need is a saucepan and a hand blender.

HeyMacWey · 20/10/2015 12:14

Agree with pp - a handblender is all you need.

Handblender here too - wouldn't be without it.

I purely got mine to save time in the evenings when I get in from work. It’s easy to chuck stuff in the jug and then be able to do something else without having to keep checking on the hob. Also less washing up using soup maker.

I freeze left over soup overnight and take it to work the next day for lunch. (freezing it reduces chances of leakage).

How does it save time BlueBright?

I have the Giles and posner one. It's cheap (30 at the moment) and does the job v well. Yep agree pan and stick blender works but with this you can bang it on and forget about it totally - which I am prone to do , and isn't ideal with a pan on the hob!

Student dd has one and ds wants one for Xmas. They won't cook meat though ( but you can chuck cooked meat in at the end). I'm especially glad of that for the kids - they re make stuff that's cheap and healthy!

Very deliciously smooth soup - and obese including spuds have had a great texture - thry incline to the glue if you stick blend thrm.

Takes between 25-30 mins for the soupmaker to make the soup. Add to that time for chopping etc..
It saves me time because i can just put all ingredients in to the soupmaker and go off to do something else rather than having to keep checking on the soup. The machine just gets on with it.

Hmm interesting. I have made a big 5 litre pot of soup today so it wouldn't meet my needs. To be honest I was mumsnet ting while it was bubbling so hardly standing over it. I think my student kids might like one though.

I have the tefal one. It is great - I use it every week. It made a fab carrot and coriander soup yesterday. One benefit is how hot it keeps the soup once it has finished cooking.

I confess to never having seen a soul maker. But I just chuck a load of veg in a saucepan, sweatvthem for 5 mins, bung in some water and leave on hob for 15-20 mins before blending, and bob's your uncle - I have soup.

How is a soup maker quicker and easier than that? Unless it peels the veg too??

When I first heard of them I never thought I would get one. A friend of mine got one and I guess that is what changed my mind.

I like soups in winter and usually made a large pot in the weekend which I would freeze in batches. I think it is nice to make smaller quantities and hence have more variety. The extra space in my freezer which is always to full is coming in handy as well.

Last weekend we were out in the morning and I had chucked all the stuff in and put on a timer so when we got home at lunchtime the house smelled of freshly made soup and we didn’t have to wait for lunch.

I have only had mine for a little while but if I keep using it as often as I’m now I would definitely replace it if it were to break down. I’m not saying it is for everyone but I really like mine.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 21/10/2015 10:17

So how many servings do you get out of one? My five consume big helpings of soup.

BlueBrightFuture · 21/10/2015 11:18

Mine is a 1.6L which feeds 4 and leaves me with plenty to take a bowl to work for lunch the next day.

Not all makes do the same size something so look out for. It says 1.6 feeds 6 but not sure if it would be enough if all 6 like large portions to be honest.

GrimDamnFanjo · 29/10/2015 20:34

Does anyone have the type that sautes first?
