I really really like Rick Stein, the India book is lovely.

TarkaDarling · 12/10/2015 15:58

I also love the Rick Stein book.

Madhur Jaffrey's 'Curries' gets used again and again in this house.

dementedpixie · 12/10/2015 15:59

Anjum Anand has several good ones. Rick Stein one is also good

dinkystinky · 12/10/2015 15:59

Curry easy by Madhur Jaffrey - so simple and all the recipes in there are great!

Teawaster · 12/10/2015 16:01

That's my fave too.i also have Madhur Jaffreys curry bible but don't like it much. I don't find all her ingredients are as readily available

ouryve · 12/10/2015 16:03

Agree about the Rick Stein book.
Madhur Jaffrey's curry nation is fab - and quite cheap everywhere so would be good for making the gift into a bundle.
I also have the Hairy Bikers' Great Curries book, which is wonderful and varied, with recipes to suit all confidence and time commitment levels from wanting to create something quite authentic, to simply quick and tasty.

OurBlanche · 12/10/2015 16:04

It depends on what kind of cook they are.

Madhur Jaffrey for a dedicated, like it to be real cook.
The Hairy Bikers for someone who likes a good curry, but isn't bothered if it isn't 'real'
Rick Stein if they like less obvious ingredients
Anjum Anand is a bit odd, between too simple and 'don't fancy it'.

I have them all and use Madhur Jaffrey's Ultimate Curry Bible and The Hairy Bikers Great Curries most.

LikeASoulWithoutAMind · 12/10/2015 16:06

Another vote for Madhur Jaffrey. Smile Love her curry easy book.

Or how about Thomasina Miers - Wahaca - Mexican Food at Home?

justabigdisco · 12/10/2015 16:08

My OH is Sri Lankan so we're quite into curry in this house.

Madhur Jaffrey is the Delia of curry. Old school and reliable.

The Rick Stein India book is excellent as others have said. I'd definitely recommend that one for your DH.

Anjum Anand - I only have the I love curry one so can't comment on others but that one is great too

OurBlanche · 12/10/2015 16:09

Or her Chili Notes. I got it from the library and it is still on my ?? buy it ?? Amazon list

mackerella · 12/10/2015 16:23

If you fancy something a bit different, I recommend the Rasa cookbook - delicious South Indian vegetarian recipes based on those in the Rasa chain of restaurants. Very spicy recipes, often lots of coconut, much drier and fresher than a lot of gloopy curries - they're Fantastic!

whois · 12/10/2015 18:21

I'll check the Rasa book our mackerella, thanks for the tip.

Quichey · 12/10/2015 18:57

No one had mentioned made in India. Lovely book!

thriftychicken · 12/10/2015 21:37

thankyou for all these ideas !

Am I too late to add my vote for Madhur Jaffrey? I've used my "A Taste of India" for decades. DSs, who weren't born when I first started using it, now request some of the meals from it. They've become firm family favourites.

Confitdecanard · 14/10/2015 18:56

I am obsessed with cooking curries. My absolute favourite is Vivek Singh's Spice at Home. Lots of great and imaginative recipes. I also like his Cinnamon Kitchen book - it is better for entertaining though it when you want to make a really special dish. I have Madhur's Curry Bible and an Anjum Anand one as well which are both good but for me nothing comes close to Vivek!

Lookslikerain · 15/10/2015 04:48

I was recently given Made in India, Meera Sodha. Lovely, easy, everyday recipes.

Notoedike · 15/10/2015 20:34

Made in India - amazing book!
