Hi all!

I've just been to the doctors and he's recommended I cut out dairy for a while. I'm a vegetarian and I would love some dairy free/ vegan recommendations!

What's the best cheese for a toastie?? What do you eat when you crave a dairy milk?? Can you truly love without pizza???

Thanks in advance!

Try violife cheese, if you want cheese, I like almond milk on my cereal. Can't answer the cheese question as I'm not a fan of it but I've heard some make it with violife.

You can get dairy free chocolate which is OK. I personally went for dark chocolate which I now actually really enjoy.
When we had take away pizza we asked for no cheese on it. Quite surprisingly it actually tastes almost the same.
Sadly, no dairy free cheese actually tastes anything like cheese regardless we what the packet says. You will need to find alternative toppings for your toastie.
I was actually dairy free for 2 years for medical reasons and actually it was OK. You can find products that are dairy free for most things (apart from cheese).

Vio life cheese is the best of a bad bunch as far as cheese is concerned! Everything else is pretty good. Lindt orange intense is dairy free dark chocolate but a bit sweeter than most (probably the Orange?) so good if you have a sweet tooth. I genuinely don't miss cheese on pizza, it's really good without. Most of my recipes contain meat so I can't help you there sorry ??.

It's not the same as normal pizza cheese, but the above recipe isn't bad, lightly sprinkled over pizza. It gives a sort of cheesy hint. I personally didn't get on with any of the non-dairy cheeses I tried.

Yes, I agree, no good alternatives for cheese but Oatly oat milk I find the best milk alternative, they also do a small carton cream. Pure olive oil spread is ok, I use it in baking. Sorbet instead of ice cream.

Block stork is dairy free, so you can use that to bake.

It's very easy to be dairy free and get your sweet fix, I could make a dairy free rocky road using digestives and suitable plain chocolate but in my opinion there is no substitute for cheese!!

I used to have cheeseless pizzas...

I'm mainly vegan - I tend to just overlaps on veg on pizza so don't miss the cheese as much and have inevitably moved to black coffee and no tea at home as no milk tastes decent but love an almond milk latte when out

Almond milk is my non dairy go to

I just found out today that lotus biscuits (the caramel flavoured ones you often get with coffee) are vegan. That's me sorted then! Grin

I've never tried it but a vegan friend recommended aubergine dip on pizzas. Nutritional yeast is apparently quite good as well.

When I became vegan four years ago I didn't try any vegan cheese for about six months as I knew it wouldn't come close to the real thing. I tried a few but wasn't impressed so just did without it. Now I do use a little violite, it melts best in microwave as opposed to the oven. I do love a slice of white bread toasted, a slice of violite on top and nuked for 30 seconds. It sticks to the roof of my mouth and I enjoy that lol.. but I am weird!

oreos are also vegan!

DH likes ombar coco mylk chcolate, made with coconut milk. For something you can find easily in a normal shop, fry's chocolate cream is vegan.

In Edinburgh or Glasgow, La Favorita deliver pizzas made with vegan mozzarella (made from rice milk). There is a sit in place in Edinburgh too.

Not sure if you're still eating eggs, if you are, a lot of (perhaps all) the genius gluten free range is dairy free, and it is fairly widely available in superarkets. Lemon cupcakes are good, croissants and pain au chocolat pretty good if you warm them up a bit.
