Baking rye bread

I'd like to bake some rye bread, I have 2 different sorts of rye flour, light and dark, and I have dried yeast (fast I think). I don't have a bread machine anymore, so will be baking by hand.

Any tips on how to go about it. I know it doesn't rise like wheat flour. Do I need to use half and half wheat and rye? Anyone got a good recipe with amounts that I can use? There are so many out there, but I don't have sour dough and the one I tried before didn't rise well ... It was heavy and solid.

It will be a very sticky dough and difficult to knead. I would certainly add some wheat flour to give it some gluten, to hold it together if for no other reason. It might be worth using the dough hook on your mixer, if you have one.

Thanks. I don't have dough hooks.
